Why Should I?
(( Lmao anyway I love @mcfanely ‘s OverKing AU and wanted to do a one shot based off some gr8 arts they did for their au, here u go ))
Zane woke with a start, feeling some of his internal mechanics run harder than they should. He placed a hand on his chest, trying to take in a breath of some sort.
Something...hurt?
He frowned.
Maybe that wasn’t the right word?
He couldn’t tell. He felt…
What was that word his teammates used when they were sick?
Phlegmy?
Zane wrinkled his nose at the mental image that brought up. He coughed, slowly building into an involuntary hacking fit.
A knock sounded off behind the door.
“Hey, Zane…?”
Zane managed to quell his coughing enough to answer the inquiry from Cole, who he’d realized was the one calling for him. “Yeah?” Another cough left him, and Zane looked down at his hands.
A black, slimy substance rested on them from his coughing.
“Zane..? Are you okay man?” Cole’s voice paused outside the door. “Are you sick? Can robots get sick?”
“No…? I don’t think so, maybe viruses-” He paused, touching his eye after feeling something leak down his cheek. “I’m okay.” Zane stopped, looking at the hand that had touched his eyes.
Whatever this was, it was in his eyes now.
Zane shook his head. “I’m fine. I’m fine, don't come in!” He kept his voice steady, trying to convince Cole to walk away from his room.
“You sure?” Cole’s voice had an inflection of worry to it.
“Yeah. I’m okay. Just gonna sleep for a little longer.” Zane replied, shutting his eyes.
It was leaking faster now.
The acrid ooze seeped into Zane’s mouth and he grimaced.
“Alright, if you’re sure. We’re gonna watch a movie, so just yell if you need anything.” Cole’s footsteps echoed as he walked away from the door.
Zane let out a sigh of relief, carefully getting up and walking to the bathroom. Maybe he could see how bad this was in the mirror. His vision blurred halfway, causing him to stumble. He shook his head and steadied himself, gripping the door frame. His head throbbed as he tried to relax. Zane coughed again, a heavy splat sounding as a large amount of the ooze hit the tile in the bathroom. He doubled over, sliding down the wall. Alarm bells and warnings flashed on his inner screen.
Danger.
He was in danger.
Zane felt the acidic sludge rising in his throat, hanging his head in the sink as it spewed from his mouth.
Oh god, everything ached. Each cough and expulsion of the sludge wracked his body with pain that shot from his head to his toes.
A slow smirk formed on his own face as he lifted his head to look in the mirror. He wasn’t doing it. Was he stuck?
“Zane…”
No.
No.
Oh god, no.
That voice.
It sent a chill down his spine and slowly tied his stomach in knots. “You’re not real. You’re in my head.”
“Precisely.” The Overlord’s raspy voice echoed in Zane’s head. “It has been far too long. I have bided my time. And now…” He slowly moved Zane’s hand upward and wiped the ooze from his nose. “I will take what is mine. We shall be as one and be so entwined that not even that sniveling Golden Ninja could pry us apart.”
“No!” The words were slow to form on his own lips, as he tried to force his hand back to the sink. He shut his eyes, body trembling in fear. “Stop!”
“Stop? Why should I?” A low chuckle left Zane’s mouth.
A slow feeling of repulsion boiled in Zane’s stomach at hearing The Overlord’s voice coming out of his body. “You need to stop. This isn’t right. Where did you come from? We killed you!”
“I have been killed many times by you and your team, yes...” The Overlord examined Zane’s body in the mirror, running a hand through his hair. “Not one of my better bodies, but we can fix that. You should have told someone, Nindroid. You should have asked for help.”
‘I thought I was sick! Or maybe an oil leak happened, or-’ Zane paused.
Oh.
Oh god.
He couldn’t talk anymore. He couldn’t use his mouth. He couldn’t move his body.
The Overlord let out a soft cackle. “A pity, isn’t it? There will be nothing you can do.” He placed a hand on his chest. “Your body will be the vessel for the end. I will take away everything you hold dear.”
‘Are you revealing your plan like the last time?’
The Overlord scoffed. “Certainly not.”
‘Sounds like it.’
“Silence!” He snapped. “I merely said-” He paused. “It is of no importance. You can no longer cry for help.”
Silence.
“Ah, perfect. Oh, and Zane…?” The Overlord began walking toward the door.
‘What.’
“I’ve always been with you.”
