Watched a movie today which gave me an idea

We’re all astronauts and we’re going on a journey of 10 years to find the answer to something that will save our solar system. However we have only enough food on the ship to last 4 years at the start. So to solve this issue one of us will devour and digest the others so we only have one mouth to feed: in a team of 5 people this would mean that instead of feeding all 5 we only need to 1, allowing the pred to last wayyyy longer with the rations since they only need to feed themself.

When the years have passed and the mission can truly begin, the pred reforms the devoured astronauts.

Optional add-ons:

-the devoured astronauts can still see through the eyes of their pred colleague.

-The pred can temporarily let their chosen prey take control over their body. Like the devoured scientist takes over for research during the journey. Pilot controls when courses need to be changed. That sorta stuff.

-The digested colleagues can use their spirit/soul to float around the pred and can interact with stuff that’s light. The ship’s built to support this way of use.

-Stops the aging of the digested scientists while keeping the pred aging
