Wings Aren't What You Need | The Vow AU
Ever since the crash, Vidia would spend her nights sleeping in the hospital lounge and checking on Spike during the day. They had put Spike into a medically induced coma to let the swelling in her brain heal. Vidia's own minor injuries had healed just fine since. Now everyday was just a waiting game for Vidia when she came into Spike's room in the hospital . Waiting for her wife to wake up and stare back at her with her hazel eyes. Today was the same as any other day: Wake up in the hospital lounge, have Rosetta drop off a change of clothes for her, and make her way to Spike's room and sit in the chair by her bed. Some days Vidia would just sit on the edge of Spike's bed and quietly talk to her about the dreams she had the night before in hopes that maybe Spike could hear her voice. Even if she knew that the coma was medically induced, it gave her comfort to continue to talk to her as if she could hear her.
This morning though, she didn't have any significant dreams from the night before to tell her. Instead she settled for just sitting in the chair besides Spike's bed in silence. She noticed Spike's wedding ring still sitting on the bedside table that was taken off by the doctors after the crash. It was just a plastic ring that Vidia got out of a quarter machine considering the little money they had while living on the Mainland. But she knew how much it meant to Spike despite how cheap it was. Vidia reached for the ring and stood up from her seat to side on the edge of Spike's bed. She gently held her left hand in her own and slid the plastic ring back into its place before pressing a kiss to her wife's cheek. Vidia kept holding the girl's hand and let out a sigh. She knew that any day now, she was supposed to wake up; but she was growing more and more impatient.
