“Guess Athena has a few more years to go before she can move on from the kiddy table!”

[ ☀ ] It’s easy to tell he’s caught her off guard, long enough for Athena to gape at him through red-tinted eyes– making no movement to deny or otherwise argue about her emotional state.
“Don’t be ridiculous,” She wipes at her eyes with the heel of her hand– but knowing how difficult it is to be lying to Simon of all people about such a matter is, she adds a reluctant, “Yes.”
What else is she supposed to add? He seems to expect an explanation, a recap of what drove her to cry, and even if Athena wanted to, her brain can’t conjure up anything coherent and sensible– She’s just upset, point blank, and it shows.
Arms wrapped loosely around herself, her chin dips downwards in a short, sharp movement– as if to consciously conceal the current colour of her face, out of embarrassment more than it is denial. “D… don’t mind me.”
Simon stood a respectable distance away, frozen still as stone.
Had something happened at work? He had not heard that she lost a case recently. Was Wright overburdening her with case work, now that Justice was gone? He would certainly need to have a talk with the man, if that were the problem. If it was not that, perhaps she’d merely had a falling out with someone? That pigtailed lass, perhaps, or one of her other friends?
Was it--relationship problems?
Simon cleared his throat. He tried to think of something to say--something a bit less foolish than asking an obviously crying person ‘are you crying’?
“I... o-of course,” he said finally, trying to keep his voice soft. “Though there is nothing wrong with crying, if you feel the need to cry. Don’t... treat it as something you must excuse yourself for.”
For want of something else to do other than stare at her in awkward confusion, he made his way over to the counter, and got down his kettle.
“You just stay there as long as you like,” he said. “A warm cup of tea might do you some good, I’d wager.”

“What’s the password?” Yes, this is a thirty-five year old man speaking from the pillow fort that he built by himself. What of it? “You’re not getting in unless you have the password.” Apollo had already been turned away (although he doubted he had wanted in to begin with) and now it was just the two of them left in the office.
“I’ll give you a big clue if you need it.”

The practical benefits of marriage elude Miles just as much now as they did before Ellen Wyatt's trial—but if there's one thing he can appreciate regardless of context, it's showmanship. From the stylish choice of venue, to the variety of the open bar he’s currently taking advantage of, the former maid's wedding reception has proven to be quite a spectacle, if nothing else.
Yet no true spectacle would be complete without the ever-memorable contributions of Larry Butz. Childhood friendship aside, Miles can't stop his mind from turning to unfavourable thoughts when one Athena Cykes enters his field of vision, moving in a manner he'd almost describe as a stalk. But he sees no flowers in her hands.
Perhaps he should be inquiring after Larry's health. Instead, he poses the question he actually wants to know the answer to.
"Who secured the bouquet?"

“...ah. Athena.” His hand was hovering in midair, having just made his move to turn the knob to the Wright Everything Agency. The younger lawyer opened it first from the other side, red hair swinging with the burst of air, and he put the hand back at his side quickly, hoping that it didn’t look too awkward. “I see you’re...at the office late.” It really was an exercise in self-control to keep calling the ridiculous space an office, when there were honest-to-goodness magic props all over the floor, but that wasn’t the current issue. “I was just about to ask Wright about some case files that I suspect he may be holding. I realize you must be locking up, but would you mind telling him to promptly return those when you get the chance? Emphasis on promptly.”
