We gotta talk about Apo
Seriously I spent all night crashing out about this. I need to talk about how Apo was treated in this series
Apo was failed by everyone. EVERYONE!!! Even though she had several allies it didnt matter in the end because they all failed her.
I specifically want to talk about Scott, Pyro and Sausage here though. Men aint shit.
Sausage, her ally and friend, part of the militia with her. When she was exposed as being a vampire he came down with a weapon out like he was going to hurt her even though she had been stuck down there for ages at that point alone and afraid. Sure, sure, they all made up after that, but it doesn't even end there. Apo has this immense trauma from Scott. Being lured into the woods, chased around, BITTEN TWICE, threatened, and then later turned into a vampire against her will because SHE TOLD SCOTT TO WAIT. Which, by the way, also happened because she was trying to protect the town.
What does she get in return? Sausage, her friend, her ally, throwing himself at the feet of her attacker begging him to turn him. Romanticizing the whole ordeal and then stabbing her in the back when she does agree to turn him, instead siding with her attacker.
What about Pyro? What does Pyro do? Well Pyro is her friend and roommate, but he contributes heavily to her trauma. When Owen lured her out, Pyro joined in on chasing her. When she was terrified of the three of them, he tried to "soothe" and comfort her only to do a complete 180 and start biting her the second Scott does. He tries to tell her later that turning doesnt have to be violent if someone doesnt fight it but he's part of the reason hers is so traumatic.
And then there's Scott. Scott who threatened and chased her, Scott who coerced and manipulated her into "agreeing" to be turned. Scott who HEARD her say wait, paused and considered it before turning her anyways. Then he went around telling her and everyone else that she asked for it and wanted it and he did nothing wrong. He hunts her and takes pride in tormenting her. In the end when all Apo can do is throw her shield down and run, Scott has almost everyone on his side and gets to go live a consequence free life.
Apo wanted to protect people and keep them safe and was kicked down at every turn until she snapped and tried to recreate her trauma with her pet pig. She was threatened and attacked and coerced and publicly outed and honestly she's better than me because I would have started killing people at that point.
