fleur  didn’t  want  to  burden  him.   she  was  clumsy,   got  hurt  too  often  and  broke  things  constantly.   getting  sick  wasn’t  exactly  something  that  came  as  a  result  of  being  clumsy,   more  of   ...   careless.

she’d  always  had  a  love  for  the  rain   --   not  thunderstorms,   but  normal  rain.   fleur  always  went  outside  to  lay  in  it,   with  no  umbrella  or  anything.   clearly,   that  wasn’t  very  smart.   even  though  sometimes  she  didn’t  get  sick,   knowing  her  luck   (  or  lack  of  ),   it  was  bound  to  happen.

the  woman  laid  on  her  bed,   pulling  the  covers  up  to  cover  everything  up  until  her  eyes.   conley  had  been  the  one  to  notify  kaede  of  the  situation,   as  she  hadn’t  been  answering  her  phone  and  wouldn’t  allow  her  parents  or  her  brother  to  come  and  help  her  with  anything.

          while  fleur  cared  for  her  brother,   and  could  never  actually  hate  him,   there  were  times  where  she  did  get  pretty  upset  with  him  and  claimed  to  hate  him.   conley  could  be  very  careless,   and  that  normally  caused  a  lot  of  incidents.   this  morning,   he’d  stepped  outside  to  get  the  mail  and  had  left  the  door  open,   and  the  cat  had  gotten  out.

while  she  was  sure  melons  was  just  fine,   and  would  probably  find  her  way  home  soon,   fleur  was  still  worried  and  wanted  her  home  as  soon  as  possible.   if  anything  happened  to  her  cat,   it  would  devastate  her.   just  knowing  she  was  out  of  the  house  was  upsetting.

maybe  it  was  stupid  looking  away  from  the  house,   as  the  cat  may  have  just  been  around  the  yard  in  a  bush  or  something,   but  conley  was  already  searching  there  so  it  would  never  hurt  to  make  sure  she  wasn’t  somewhere  far.   she’d  have  to  go  home  soon  anyway,   as  it  was  already  beginning  to  get  dark.

                    “  hey!  “

she  called  after  someone  ahead  of  her,   walking  quickly  to  catch  up  to  him.   while  it  wasn’t  likely,   she  just  wanted  to  know  if  he  happened  to  see  her  or  not.   it  was  worth  a  shot.

                    “  have  you  seen  a  cat  around  here?   stubby  legs,   white  fur,   pink  collar?  “

|| 昨夜 || :: the GENBU had always been someone who was honest when it comes to those she trusted. that being said, the number of people she could genuinely say she had placed her trust upon could be counted in one hand alone. she was someone who appeared rather intimidating to others, after all. not many would want to get close to her for that reason alone.

                but even her seemingly DISTANT front couldn’t keep him away, and to be honest, she was quite grateful that was the case.

                “ kaede. ” his name was uttered as a mean to break the silence, and to garner his attention. the UNCERTAINTY lingering about her very person was almost uncharacteristic. the black warrior hardly displayed hesitation in and out of BATTLE, but why was it that saying what was on her mind had become rather DAUNTING.

                perhaps, it was that unconscious fear of losing someone important over it.

                “ if i tell you that i’m not what you think i am, would you hate me ? ” while the wording itself was VAGUE, it was a kind of hint as to what she was trying to get at. keeping a secret was someone she trusted wasn’t what she liked to do at all, but at the same time, the real question echoed within. the question she didn’t find the courage to UTTER yet.

                if you know what i am, would you be scared of me ?

--- TO CATCH A GLIMPSE OF A MEMORY MY MUSE HAS.

There was nothing there. Only the smell of dust, only rocks and dry clumps of trees in the distance. The mage’s feet sank slowly into the sun-heated dirt. Prints of hooves ever so fresh ahead of him suggesting he found himself on a road of some sort. But where did it lead? As he’d turn around a startled whine of horses cut the silence short. Hooves danced in front of his face. --- It only were some men. Some travelers unfortunate enough to find a peculiarity in their path. Startled like their livestock, they wore fashion the mage has never seen, and they spoke a dialect the mage has never heard.

He slipped closer to them; Breath taken as if to speak, but the men were already scrambling for as much distance, as far as their legs could let them run. Hurriedly, they left their carts as if fearing for life.

But the mage only stood. Feet sunk into the sun-heated dirt, his gaze only followed the silhouettes until they disappeared behind the horizon. --- He too, was only a silhouette, he would soon learn. He was just a shape. Dark as if sky itself in a human form.

Black hands held a metal bowl left in the abandoned cart, he scanned his reflection closely. Had he once looked akin to the traveling men he just encountered, he realized he struggled to recall such time. 

But strangely…  he yearned to know….  

As if upon a command his dark shadowy shape melted slowly into features of each one of the strangers he saw before while he pondered over a memory buried deep in his mind, until eventually their rough features softened and settled into an entirely different appearance. It was a young man with a fixed gaze and light strands of hair limply falling over his cheeks

The mage blinked, and an odd sense of familiarity washed over him. The reflection blinked as well.

It was… himself?
