(Some context, since it might be helpful/fun to know:

In the first image, the slaughtered animal is meant to be a lamb.

In the second image, there are quotation marks around the word ‘drunk’. This is because Silver is ‘traditionally’ drunk, whereas Espio is not. In my interpretation of vampires, vampires are able to get drunk off of curated blood. Espio has access to this because they’re in a saloon where vampires are more accepted into that town’s society, so establishments would also have food and drink catered to them, lol.)

Ahh I’m so insane about this au, and I’ve been obsessing over this song, and the lyrics honestly match Espio perfectly.. also, no, I didn’t accidentally pull my first All-nighter ever working on this, what do you take me for?

I apologise, it’s kinda messy, I’m not that used to drawing characters just standing still 🥹

Anyway, I thought I’d use this post to share some general information about the AU. Aka, stuff about Silver, stuff about Espio, and stuff about vampires in this au in general!! (Strap in, this is gonna be a longgg post)

Silver

- Silver works as a Vampire Hunter, though he often finds himself after mobian-criminals as well, courtesy of being well-known throughout the city and having a P.I as a (work) Partner.

- As of now, he is twenty-two years old. He met Espio when he was seventeen, and they’ve been together ever since.

- His main weapon is a simple pistol. They’re filled with the usual lead bullets, except he makes sure to coat each and every single bullet with a coat of silver. After all, lead by itself doesn’t harm vampires beyond a few grunts of pain, but using the silver coating allows the bullets to create a deep wound which pierces vampires with ease.

- He only takes his scarf off when he feels there isn’t danger nearby, which means he only takes it off when he’s home.

- speaking of silver, Silver wears a lot of silver jewellery as protection from vampires. His jewellery comes mainly in the form of rings, though he also likes to put rings in his quills. They kind of look like piercings!

- Silver’s dad is Mephiles. This can only end well. Mephiles has been and remains the biggest mentor figure in Silver’s life. As previously mentioned, this can only end well.

- Silver has psychokinesis, though nobody but Mephiles knows of this. Not even Espio. It’s where the markings on his fur stem from, though he always chalks that up to weird genetics. He tries not to use his PK, going as far as to pretend it doesn’t exist, (after all, this isn’t exactly a normal thing to have. People might deem him dangerous, or something much worse. Best to keep this secret.) though unsurprisingly this has some side effects. Nightmares are incredibly more common, for one. Occasionally, he’ll lose feeling in his hands or legs, but that never lasts too long to be an issue. (He does have a cane, just in case) but most importantly, he gets ‘visions’. Visions of a ruined future, one wrecked and bled dry by vicious beings.. ah, he shudders just to think about it.

(And whether those are actually visions, or just unchecked emotions worsened by suppressed energy and power all of a sudden bursting and causing his mind to go haywire, he’s not sure. But Mephiles said they were visions, so he’s sure they are.)

Espio

- Espio works alongside Vector and Charmy as Private Investigators. They live together.

- Currently, he is twenty-one years old. He met Silver when he was sixteen, and they’ve been together ever since.

- Despite being a P.I, his strong sense of justice deemed Silver’s cause incredibly understandable, leading to him working alongside Silver on occasion. At first it was one case, then another, then two or three.. pretty soon, it wouldn’t be a stretch to call them work-partners. (Sometimes, he keeps some of his clothes at Silver’s. It’s easier, considering how much time he spends there)

- His main weapon of choice is a Silver dagger. He keeps it in the inside pocket of his cape.

- Espio is quite the skilled fighter.

- He turned into a vampire two years ago (at nineteen). He planned to keep it a secret, but both Vector and Charmy quickly found out. Silver has no idea though, which Espio could not be more grateful for.

- He used to do something similar to Silver, only taking his scarf off when out of danger, but now he only takes it off in the privacy of his actual home. (Aka, around Charmy and vector.) He can’t let Silver get even the slightest thought of him being a vampire, so he’s most certainly not taking any risk of Silver seeing his fangs.

- Vampires are naturally nocturnal, but Espio still tries to keep to a mobian’s normal sleep schedule. This can only end well.

- Whenever he starts craving blood (which is scarily often, might he add), he’ll bite down on his wrists. It keeps him grounded, and reassures him of the fact he isn’t hurting anybody.

- Espio knows he needs to feed when a lot of various factors occur. The first one being an exceptionally strong craving for blood. The second one being that his scales start to pale, and the final one being whenever his limbs start feeling like silver-coated lead. There are more factors, but those are the important ones. In these cases, he’ll never feed on a mobian, but instead search for recently killed animals and take their blood, instead. If there are none, he’ll try to tough it out for however long it takes until one turns up. It’s not.. the best method, no, not by a long shot, but.. it’s the only one he has.

- He pretends to wear silver jewellery, like the ring on his horn. Really, they’re just normal jewellery, but Espio’ll paint them white to ensure Silver doesn’t get suspicious.

General AU stuff!

- this au’s setting is that of the mid-Industrial Revolution, in the nineteenth century.

- the various weaknesses and strengths a Vampire has differs greatly per interpretation, so here are the rules for vampires in this au:

Vampires aren’t demonic/religious creatures, but just another species. Despite this, they still are seen as demonic figures, but that’s only cultural. Due to them having no relation to religion, things like Wooden stakes, Holy Water and Garlic have no effect on them. (But, because I think it’s funny, all vampires dislike garlic. lol.) They are still weak to silver and sunlight though.

Contact with silver causes a burning sensation, and depending on various factors could create a sizzling deep wound. Sunlight doesn’t burn a vampire immediately when in contact with it, but a vampire will always be more sluggish when in direct sunlight. They’ll sustain internal injuries the longer they stay in the sun, but it’s only until they’ve been in the sun for 10~12 hours that they’d need direct medical attention. (Or else they’d actually just start slowly disintegrating lol) other Sunlight exposure symptoms include: lots of trouble breathing, inability to move limbs, increased senses, etc.

If a vampire bites you, it doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed to get turned. See, the bite can also act as an ‘activator’ of sorts. Being a vampire is genetic, after all, you’re either born it or you’re not, but if you happen to have the recessive version of the gene, rather than the dominant one, you won’t be born a vampire, but a bite would turn you.

Okay sorry I will VVH post AGAIN. I am SORRY!!! (<- really not sorry)

The thought of Silver never really being sure of what Espio thinks of him.. for some reason, a reason he can never place, Espio continues to push him away the moment things get too close. Silver knows Espio thinks he’s being sly about it- and he is, all things considered- but he’s not that stupid. He takes notice of how he prefers to take on easier missions solo, despite the fact they used to do everything together. He takes notice of how he seems to go strangely stiff during hugs, only to then turn eerily limp. He takes notice of how, every time they fall asleep together, too entangled in their work the night before, Espio’s never by his side when he wakes up.

It’s irritating. Frustrating, even, because he knows Espio at the very least likes him. If he didn’t, well, he’s under no contractual or legal obligation to stay. No, Espio chooses to stay, to pursue this path alongside his actual job, and to pursue this path with him of all people, even after all this time.

So why is it that Espio pushes him away? Does he dislike him? But if he did, he could just leave! Is he being forced into anything? There’s no way- if he was, he would’ve either taken care of it already or would’ve informed someone he trusts- like him! It doesn’t help that any attempt to spark conversation beyond typical work talk is met with clipped words and another repeat of Espio saying ‘he’s tired’.

All he wants is to help Espio- sure, he might not have the full picture, but there’s not much else the issue could be, right? Something has to be bothering Espio. Something thats been bothering him for years now, ever since they were teens. That’s what it is, right? It has to be. There’s no other option.

In the comfort of his own office, Silver vows to himself he’ll keep Espio safe for as long as possible- vows to protect him from any evil, mental or not, that dares come his way. Maybe he’s a little too late to make this vow, but he vows regardless. After all, he might not know what troubles Espio is facing- if he’s even facing any troubles at all, and not just hiding a possibly negative view of Silver- but he is still his friend. Espio’s friend.

..Even if Espio doesn’t return the sentiment.

VVH!Espilver posting again bc I’m obsessed..

the idea of Espio not being a natural vampire but instead a mortal who turned.. something something tracking down some criminals with silver in their office when all of a sudden a strange noise rings out from outside. Espio goes to investigate and tells Silver to continue his work.. He finds a vampire feeding off of a dead animal carcass in the thrash (the bin falling over must’ve been what caused that noise) and lowers his weapon. He doesn’t want to attack this poor soul, just help him find better (non-mobian) food, but they understandably dont get the message. Espio fights them off in time to ensure he doesn’t die of blood loss, killing them in the process, but the damage has already been done- The vampire managed to bite him, and he can only hope none of their blood entered his system.

He knows it did when Silver asks what happened out there, and all Espio can focus on is the smell of his blood.
