vweenie replied your post So Ianthe (ianthe.tumblr.com) tried out my weighted blanket...
i mean. i know its a weighted blanket. so like a blanket thats heavy. but whats it for?
They are super calming and soothing. They're used a lot among non-neurotypical (NT) people (like those with ADHD or autism, for example)
I find it helps my ADHD (it helps me focus and shut out sensory input and sates some of my urge to fidget), as well as being calming when my anxiety is bad. Plus they're super comfortable! I find that I sleep a lot better under it as well.
Mine is 14lbs and ~42" x ~85", though if I were doing it again I'd make it a bit heavier. It's definitely heavy enough to feel the weight though.
Some of my NT friends enjoy the feeling, but others find it smothering.
