   he never goes through the DUP checkpoints unprepared. he goes so far as to get a friend at the hospital to slip him blood from conduit-negative patients that he can use to fool the sensors. but he's out late, he's tired from a long day of work, and he forgot. and now he's stuck in the too-short line to get detained, and there's no one around except the two people ahead -  hey.

he sees a figure on the other side of the road and whistles, hoping to catch his attention, stepping out of the line.    "Hang on - I know this guy."  he has no idea who this guy is.     "I'm just gonna go say hey while you check them." 

he jogs over.     "Hey. Haven't seen you in forever, how've you been?"  play along. please.
