Yawning, Hunter locked the store’s front door, sweeping her eyes over the place one last time to make sure she hadn’t forgotten anything before stepping out and pulling the door shut behind her. She listened to it click, tried it again to make sure it wouldn’t open and then stepped into the street – where she almost ran into someone.
He was familiar, though not comforting necessarily. A little prickle of nerves raced up her spine and made the finer hairs at the base of her neck stand up. Hunter resisted the urge to try smoothing them down. “Sheriff,” She greeted him nervously. “My apologies. I was just closing up after work...” For a moment she trailed off before stepping aside in the hopes he would allow her to go. “I should be getting back to the gutters.”
