is who knows from I can get it for you wholesale overdone? also - will you/would you (can't rmr which one it is) from grey gardens? ALSO are they bad audition songs haha
I don’t believe either are overdone, and I think they both make nice audition songs!
I know you said auditions were not about popping your money note, but what about competitions? like state thespian competitions? should you focus more on finding a song to really show off your high notes, or a song that's more in tune with your easy/comfortable notes?
It really depends on the competition, honestly. Some are really focused on pure singing ability, but many are focused more on your storytelling! They want to see the whole package performance, and they want to see you tell a compelling tale! So my advice is to see if you can find videos of people who have won in the past, because that will give you an idea of what they are looking for, and what they really reward!
what's the difference between a classical monologue and a contemporary one? i just want to clarify and make sure
Well, there’s some room for interpretation here. Some people believe that Chekhov is the point that divides classic from contemporary. Pre-Chekhov was classic, post-Chekhov is contemporary. But obviously if we compare something like Christopher Durang and Chekhov, we see serious differences in what we call “contemporary.” Chekhov does seem dated to us, which it should--it’s old. Some people call contemporary anything within the last 10 years. It’s just a very loose term, honestly, and opinions vary greatly. Classic, on the other hand, is a little easier to nail down. Shakespeare, Marlowe, the Restoration plays, the Greek plays... Some people say, anything that doesn’t feel like the here and now is classic, anything that feels like the here and now is contemporary. That’ssssss a little too loose for me, because I read lots of contemporary shows that don’t feel like the here and now, but hey. It’s just another interpretation of the words.
(part 1) im competing in a highschool level musical theatre competition next year for backstory. i picked a song, which has a few really high belt notes that i can reach but BARELY (hard to stay on and sharp) and they strain my voice to hell. recently I had another song I was performing with a note I reacted similarly to but after a few months it is now easy and comfortable. I was wondering if perhaps it will work out that way for these new notes?
It’s definitely possible, but I can’t say for sure. Some notes are just outside of our range, others just take work and require honing our technique in order to reach. Try to just be gentle with your voice as you work your way up there--don’t try to rush yourself up to those notes, because you don’t want to cause damage as you work!
w-hy replied to your post: “Someone named Shahid’s calling. ” I ...
which fic are you talking about?
this one!!
I'm sorry if u don't want me to reply on ask, I just don't want to keep reblogging the long post if that's ok. sorry again. but, alright, the escalator was kinda a joke point in the post to make it funny. goin up a down escalator doesn't make them fake, it isn't a selling point. I understand that like, elounor is the info he's given us and we should respect that, but you should also think about how there have been ... (this is part 1)
sorry this is long !! (part 2) there have been many people closeted in the industry, and a lot of the reason I don't respect the image is like, there's a really genuine possibility, at least to me, that this is contracted and louis doesn't want this. homosexuality is a big deal, like I am also in the closet irl bc it IS a big big deal to a lot of people and that's my justification for not respecting the image. if there are any fallacies or this doesn't make sense to u tell me im half asleep
I totally don't have a problem with you replying in my ask. No need to apologize. While you are correct that there have been many people closeted in the industry you have to understand that they literally cannot sign away their sexuality, its against the law ( See this ). Plus, with the immense amount of Support for openly Gay artists like Sam Smith there can't honestly be a reason for them (hypothetically speaking) not to come out. Plus, If it was such a big deal their families wouldn't deny it as much as they already have, Louis wouldn't deny it. I understand what you're saying, being part of the lgbt+ community myself I see what you're saying. But I also understand that regardless of how justified people may feel about not respecting him that doesn't make the fact that you aren't respecting him any better.
w-hy replied to your post:ughhhhh those two guys that's always stalking harry and louis make me so mad!
