"We are servants to those people" (AU where Bolaire meets Hal before he really shakes the whole "I am an object, at the whims of whoever's wearing me" thing? Double bonus if it's for a museum gala and he's literally a servant) -curatorbolaire
@curatorbolaire | halandil and bolaire | answered ask! "we are servants to those people."
his head tilts, eyebrows furrowed tightly. somehow, this was not the conversation he had expected to get into. "well– i...disagree." is he really going to have this argument? looks like it. "servants are...well, props are servants, in a way. a prop serves the performer – and i don't think you're...that you're a prop. not at all. way i see it, you're a performer." he pauses, arms crossing. "...which are similar things from an outsider's point of view, i'll admit. but they're actually fairly different." not the least of which that one was a person. a cheer comes up from the crowd through the room behind them and hal glances back at the makeshift stage – or, rather, more at the crowd of people's backs, as that's all that is visible from this spot in the room. "props just...enhance setting. you don't need a prop to have a good play. what you do need," as the crowd parts slightly, just enough for a momentary glimpse of the troupe's performance, "is a performer. and a performer is the one who interprets the text; filters it through their mirror and puts it on display." hal glances back to the man across from him. "so, no. you don't feel like a prop to me."
