This S-Class came to us with a glow plug warning on the dash and a long start complaint, especially in the mornings. We're replacing the faulty glow plugs in this 6-cylinder diesel engine. A diesel engine, unlike a petrol engine, does not have an external ignition device like a spark plug. The combustion relies solely on air heated by compression. However, in a cold diesel engine, the compression temperature might not be high enough to enable the injected fuel to ignite properly. To address this problem, there is a glow plug (an electrical heating device) inside every cylinder of your diesel car. Its purpose is to preheat the engine's cylinders to facilitate diesel combustion. This Mercedes S-Class 350 CDI (60km run) came in with a check engine light & limp mode. Our diagnosis showed Error code: 2513 Check the component M55 (inlet port shut-off motor). Positioner signals fault. What is an inlet port shut-off motor? The inlet port shut-off motor, also known as the M55 component, is located between the engine's two cylinder heads downstream of the fuel filter. Its task is to adjust the flaps in the intake manifolds (the series of tubes that distribute the air evenly to each of the cylinders) in accordance with the acceleration/deceleration. The car's main computer (ECU) specifies the set value for the flap position by means of a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) signal. The signal is evaluated by the integrated electronics. The DC motor pushes the adjusting lever into the corresponding position. When fault code 2513 is stored in this engine type, there are 2 possibilities: 1.) Clogged intake air system caused by carbon deposits. In such an event, the entire intake air system must be disassembled and cleaned. It should be noted whether the swirl flaps and the shafts of the intake manifolds are undamaged. 2.) Often the motor to activate the flaps could have sustained damaged, which is what we are replacing on this S-Class today.
