Lin  tried  to  remain  in  the  stance  of  a  proper  lady,  but  it  was  certainly  hard  as  she  stood  back  with  Benedict  as  she  watched  Anthony  with  Cassandra  and  how  he  seemed  to  dance  around  the  idea  of  commitment  to  her.  While  it's  there,  the  desire  of  the  match  due  to  breeding  and  social  standing  she  could  tell  that  Anthony  Bridgerton  was  trying  to  avoid  putting  his  heart  on  the  line.  It  infuriated  Aislin  to  watch  this  display.

Cassandra  writes  about  epic  romances  and  adventure  and  in  Aislin's  eyes  she  deserves  nothing  less  than  the  worlds  she  creates.  But  that  damn  Bridgerton  boy.

❝  I  swear  on  everything  that  is  good,  Benedict,  if  your  brother  doesn't  get  his  act  together  I  may  loose  a  boot  up  his  backside  as  I'm  kicking  him  from  here  to  Spain.❞  She  wants  to  badly  to  cross  her  arms  and  give  the  man  death  daggers  with  her  eyes,  but  she  must  maintain  her  lady  like  stature  in  the  presence  of  others,  but  that  is  why  she  enjoys  time  spent  with  Benedict.

He  will  let  her  be  herself,  even  if  that  includes  threatening  his  brother  ...  Or  him,  maybe.  It  truly  depends  on  the  situation.

❝  Tell  me,  Benedict,  as  a  man  yourself  ...  why  is  your  gender  so...❞  don't  say  'stupid',  she  told  herself.  So  she  only  had  the  choice  to  silence  herself.  No  other  words  would  follow  leaving  the  question  lingering  in  the  air.

❝  You  did  what  ?  ❞  Matthias  turned  around  to  look  at  his  brother  with  wide  blue  eyes  and  disbelief.  But  the  funny  thing  is  he  couldn't  actually  not  believe  he'd  do  something  like  this.  It's  Mark. 

That  was  reason  enough  for  it  to  be  true.  So  why  is  Matthias  seeming  so  surprised  that  his  brother  is  attempting  to  put  him  in  a  PR  relationship  with  the  words  current  rising  star. 

❝  Mark,  tell  me  you're  joking.  Please,  tell  me  you're  joking.  ❞  though  that  was  asking  for  a  miracle  wasn't  it?  It's  true,  when  it  came  to  his  love  life  it  was…lacking.  That  was  the  best  way  to  put  it  …  his  last  girlfriend  played  him  for  a  fool  and  the  world  watched  it  happen.  Before  that,  it  was  just  a  disaster.  Then  there  was  before  he  was  famous…

𝑰𝒕  𝒘𝒂𝒔  𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈  𝒕𝒐  𝒃𝒆  𝒂  𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒐𝒏  𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈  ,  him  laying  on  the  floor  of  his  niece  and  nephews  bedrooms  and  talking  to  them  about  his  life,  including  his  love  life  as  though  they  have  any  idea  of  what  it  might  be  like  to  be  in  love.  They're  young,  the  only  thing  they  know  they  love  is  fruit  loops,  Maddie's  singing,  and  giving  Chim  a  run  for  his  money.

But  it's  just  nice  to  have  someone  listen,  and  even  the  uncertain  babbling  from  little  Bobby  that  seems  to  help  him  get  through  this  situation  as  much  as  it  could.  Drinking  isn't  something  he's  going  to  do,  and  wallowing  is  something  he  could  do  but  he's  found  it  does  nothing  there  as  well.

Currently  listening  on  the  baby  monitor,  Chimney  walks  over  to  his  beautiful  wife  and  sets  it  down  near  her.

❝  You  know  I  love  Buck,  but  the  fact  that  he's  using  our  kids  for  free  therapy  doesn't  sit  right  with  me.  ❞  he  says  in  that  way  that  Chim  does  as  he  sighs,  looking  at  it.  ❝  Next  thing  you  know  our  son's  first  words  won't  be  'mama'  or  'dada'  it'll  be  a  whole  complete  sentence  of  a  Johnny  Cash  heartbreak  song  because  of  your  brother.  ❞  though  he  gets  it,  he  understands  the  pain  that  Buck  is  going  through  right  now.  Heartbreak  is  hard  to  navigate  and  if  he  had  to  pick  anyone  who  is  unlucky  in  love  it's  sadly  Buck.  By  no  fault  of  his  own.

❝  I  don't  know  what  to  do  with  this...Do  I  threaten  to  beat  up  the  guy  who  hurt  him?  Seems  juvenile  and  not  sure  if  I  could  even  take  him  in  a  fight.  Take  him  out  for  drinks?  Do  I  get  him  an  emotional  support  dog?  ❞  Chim  looks  to  Maddie  and  he  takes  a  deep  breath.

❝  Or  maybe  he  just  needs  wise  words  from  the  person  who  knows  him  best...❞  he  smiles  softly  at  Maddie,  leaning  against  her.  Then,  of  course,  a  joke  flies  in.  ❝  But  I  don't  think  Eddie  is  up  at  this  hour.  ❞

Korea  –  she  never  thought  she'd  ever  get  to  leave  Chicago,  but  with  her  best  friend  attending  K.I.S.S  and  ample  amounts  of  practically  begging  her  parents  to  let  her  go  see  Sam,  they  gave  in  and  gave  her  permission.  This  was  after  all  the  shots,  the  rules,  the  language  lessons  to  learn  basic  Korean  that  was  outside  of  the  Kpop  fad  and  everything  else. 

Olivia  was  finally  setting  foot  on  the  land  of  which  her  friend  had  come  to  expand  her  learning.  A  bit  jealous  of  it,  wishing  she  could  come  with  -  but  even  these  girls  needed  to  do  their  own  things.  Just,  not  for  long.  They  were  practically  inseparable  since  the  day  they  were  born.

Looking  around  the  school  campus  with  her  bags  in  hand,  she's  looking  around.  They  had  to  get  special  permission  for  her  to  visit  but  it  was  worth  the  hassle  when  her  eyes  landed  on  her  best  friend  who  was  now  sitting  around  other  people. 

❝  Sammy  !  ❞  Olivia  squeals,  then  she  quickly  rushes  over  and  throws  her  arms  around  her  friend  after  dropping  her  bags  and  nearly  tackling  her  to  the  ground.  The  group  looks  on  at  this  spectacle.  Yuri  laughs  under  her  breath  while  Kitty  too  giggles  watching  Sam  get  nearly  floored  by  the  girl  with  blonde  hair.

Min  Ho  raises  his  brow.  Another  one,  he  thought  with  what  looked  like  disgust  as  if  he  hadn't  grown  fond  of  Samantha,  but  he  turns  to  Dae  and  gives  him  a  nudge. 

Olivia  pulls  away  and  just  smiles. 

❝  This  place  is  incredible.  Tell  me  everything.  Show  me  everything!  ❞

𝑰𝒕'𝒔  𝒏𝒐𝒕  𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒚  𝒃𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒈  𝒂  𝒌𝒊𝒅,  even  more  so  when  your  mother  lost  custody,  you  have  no  idea  who  your  father  is,  and  foster  homes  toss  you  around  like  a  hacky  sack  on  fire.  Lennon  learned  a  lot  in  her  few  years  on  this  Earth,  but  one  thing  she  knows  is  that  when  the  cops  are  involved  it's  never  good.  Ever.

And  now  that  she's  witnessed  a  crime  and  one  of  the  only  witnesses  there  are?  Well,  that  just  makes  life  a  whole  lot  more  complicated.

She  sits  quietly  in  the  room  where  she  knows  the  windows  are  two-way.  She's  seen  enough  cop  shows  to  figure  that  out.  She's  not  someone  wanted,  just  someone  they  want  to  talk  to  and  since  she  wouldn't  speak  with  a  lot  of  people  around  they  tried  one  on  one  to  no  avail.  She  wasn't  talking  to  anyone.

Not  even  Danny,  and  he  put  his  best  foot  forward.

The  only  witness  to  this  crazy  --  a  handful  of  people  going  missing.  They  suspect  a  serial  killer  type  at  the  hands  of  all  of  this,  but  they  can't  seem  to  figure  out  a  direct  pattern  to  the  madness.

And  with  now  only  one  witness,  a  young  girl,  they  figured  maybe  a  break  in  the  case.  But  she's  not  breaking,  she's  not  saying  a  damn  thing  to  anyone.  Her  mouth?  Shut.  Her  attitude?  In  full.

Danny  Williams,  the  one  so  usually  good  with  kids  is  at  his  wits  end  as  he  stands  in  front  of  his  best  friend,  his  soul  brother  and  fellow  detective  Matt  Vaughn.

❝  It's  your  turn.❞  Danny  says  flatly  as  he  waves  his  hand.  ❝  I've  tried,  kid  won't  talk,  I'm  running  out  of  options.  You  give  it  a  go,  maybe  she'll  talk  to  you  ?  ❞  though  Danny  couldn't  give  a  full  solid  reason  as  to  why  that  might  be.  Instead,  he  just  says  it  hoping  for  the  best.

❝  Just...be  your  charming  self,  I'm  sure  that'll  do  it.  ❞  they  needed  this  kid  to  talk,  she's  the  only  one  that  could  help  them.  The  department  would  never  admit  it,  but  they're  at  a  roadblock  on  this  one.

𝑰𝒕'𝒔  𝒏𝒐𝒕  𝒖𝒏𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒐𝒏  𝒕𝒐  𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒌  𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒈  𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒔  𝒂𝒔  𝒂  𝒏𝒖𝒓𝒔𝒆.  In  fact,  she's  grateful  for  the  chance  to  work  with  those  she  considers  friends  and  of  course  her  own  family.  Life  had  changed  for  the  better  after  everything  came  into  place.  With  the  help  of  a  family  friend,  her  brother's  determination,  she  was  turning  her  life  around  from  a  path  she  thought  she'd  never  make  it  out  of. 

And  now  she's  checking  her  phone,  her  schedule,  the  texts  from  her  brothers  that  come  pouring  in.  From  Tyler  it's  a  barrage  of  memes  and  stupid  things,  from  Ollie  it's  him  talking  about  life  and  his  wife  and  how  smitten  in  love  he  is  and  how  he  wants  fifty  kids.  Unrealistic  and  she  knows  he's  being  hyperbolic,  but  still,  she  laughs  it  off. 

Right  now  waiting  for  her  tea  order.  It  used  to  be  coffee,  but  after  her  heart  surgery  she  doesn't  intake  too  much  caffeine  just  to  be  safe.  But  being  distracted  by  work  things,  brothers,  even  her  mother  sending  a  mass  amount  of  texts  just  the  same  she  finds  herself  reaching  for  what  she  thought  was  hers  as  it  was  just  called,  but  as  she  takes  it  and  sips  it  her  face  contorts  into  disgust  and  confusion.  Pulling  back  the  cup  from  her  mouth  she  swallows  but  she  doesn't  appreciate  the  bitterness  that  hit  her  tongue. 

❝  Oh  my…❞  She  pulls  the  cup  back  from  her  mouth  and  reads  the  name.  It  does  not  read  Melanie  Brendan,  it  reads  Chris  Dane. 

Well,  that's  not  her,  but  she  knows  that  name.  She  remembers  that  case.  An  officer  who  came  in  with  a  through  and  through  gunshot  wound.  She  remembers  the  rush  of  that  day,  the  amount  of  blood.  She's  seen  a  lot  working  as  a  nurse  in  the  ER  along  side  of  her  brother  and  others,  cops  always  coming  in  with  something  but  she  remembers  him  distinctly.  Hard  to  forget  eyes  like  his. 

❝  Oh  shoot,  I  am  so  sorry,  I  took  your  coffee  by  mistake.❞  she  sets  it  back  down,  reaching  into  her  pocket.  ❝  Here,  let  me  get  you  a  new  one,  I  doubt  you  want  yours  after  I  just  took  a  big  swig  of  it  …  which  I  regret.❞  then,  she  has  to  ask.  ❝  How  can  you  drink  that?  It's…oof…❞  then  a  pause  as  a  blush  touches  her  cheeks.

❝  You  may  not  remember  me,  but  I  was  the  nurse  when  you  came  in  before  with  the  uh..❞  she  taps  where  he  was  shot.  ❝  Yeah…how  are  you  doing?  ❞  Melanie  is  quick  to  ask.  ❝  Everything  healing  okay?  ❞  The  way  she  looks  with  caution  and  care  she's  trying  to  avoid  the  eyes  otherwise  she  might  just  blush  more.

How  the  hell  does  one  flirt,  or  not  flirt  ? 

Her  brothers  make  it  look  so  easy.

𝑻𝒉𝒆  𝒎𝒖𝒔𝒄𝒍𝒆𝒔  𝒊𝒏  𝒉𝒆𝒓  𝒇𝒂𝒄𝒆  𝒕𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒆𝒏  𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏  𝒔𝒉𝒆  𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒔  𝒕𝒉𝒆  𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒅𝒔  𝒉𝒆  𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒂𝒌𝒔,  calling  her  simple  requests  'demands'.  How.  Dare.  He.  April  isn't  demanding.  She's...just  wanting  him  to  not  die.  As  his  doctor  that's  allowed,  isn't  it?  To  not  want  to  lose  her  patient  due  to  his  own  stubbornness  and  what  some  might  call  utter  lack  of  self  ?  She  finds  nothing  wrong  with  this  and  yet  here  he  is  giving  her  attitude  for  asking  the  bare  minimum  of  him!

What.  A.  Jerk.

Frustrating,  arrogant,  jerk.  And  many  more  things  that  she  can't  seem  to  think  of  while  she  is  certain  the  smoke  is  visibly  coming  out  of  her  ears  in  her  frustration  toward  the  one  known  as  Tony  Stark.  Adored  by  many,  but  a  pain  in  her  backside.

❝  Tony.  ❞  her  voice  is  firm,  focused  and  trying  to  remain  utterly  calm  as  she  silently  prays  to  God  to  grant  her  patience,  because  if  he  grants  her  strength  she  might  just  kick  his  butt.

❝  This...demand  isn't  so  much  as  a  demand  as  it  is  a  request  I  want  you  to  truly  consider  for  your  health,  for  your  safety,  and  because  I'm  certain  if  you  keep  this  up  there  will  be  a  global  shortage  on  bandages  because  I've  been  patching  up  your  body  and  your  ego.❞  Her  tone  does  it's  best  to  remain  calm,  melodic,  but  it  is  tense  in  that  very  moment.

❝  Now,  will  you  please  just  take  a  few  days  to  heal?  That's  all  I'm  asking,  I  don't  think  that's  asking  for  a  lot.  ❞  To  her,  it's  simple  enough.  But  to  him,  she  figures  she's  asking  him  the  impossible.

𝑇𝘩𝑒𝑟𝑒  𝑤𝑎𝑠  𝑎  𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑒  𝑤𝘩𝑒𝑟𝑒  𝐶𝑎𝑖𝑑𝑦  𝑐𝑜𝑢𝑙𝑑𝑛'𝑡  𝑏𝑒𝑙𝑖𝑒𝑣𝑒  𝑖𝑛  𝑎  𝘩𝑖𝑔𝘩𝑒𝑟  𝑝𝑜𝑤𝑒𝑟.  If  she  had,  why  would  they  take  her  parents,  make  her  and  her  brother  suffer  the  way  they  did,  and  why  would  they  still  struggle  through  their  daily  lives?  But  then  someone  like  Chris  comes  along  to  show  her  that  the  world  isn't  as  dark  as  she  thought  it  was.  Dark,  cold,  cruel,  and  unforgiving  was  all  she  thought  she'd  ever  know.

And  then  he  came  along,  a  bright  like  in  the  stupid  dark  with  those  eyes,  that  smile,  the  way  he  holds  her  and  the  world  stops  spinning.  The  way  he  speaks  to  her  and  everything  goes  still.

In  comparison  she  thought  herself  nothing  to  the  grace  that  he  brings  the  world  with  his  presence,  his  job,  his  personality.  She  wants  to  be  more  than  the  labels  she  put  on  herself  --  she  wants  to  be  a  woman  worthy  of  a  man  like  him.  Caidy  wants  to  be  everything  but  feels  like  she's  nothing  all  at  once.

It  makes  her  feel  like  she's  trapped  in  a  hamster  wheel  she  can't  get  out  of,  even  falling  off  isn't  an  option.

But  his  words  spoken  softly  like  a  promise  that  couldn't  be  broken  no  matter  what  the  world  could  throw  at  it.

A  smile,  soft  as  it  is  timid  as  her  eyes  find  his.  ❝  You  sure  ?  ❞  she  asks  with  a  hint  of  playfulness  in  the  moment  holding  much  emotion.  ❝  Some  days  I'm  not  even  sure  what  being  myself  looks  like,  but  for  you  ...  I  want  to  try.  ❞
