We don't know if this really is the 'next step in wading boot technology' as Hodgman claims, but it surely looks neat and innovative.

Three Times A Charm?

After having had some issues with my previous sets of wading boots (the Simms Vapor and Rivertek boots), there is news on the footwear front. The next set of boots that will adorn my feet are the 2016 Simms Headwaters.

The Riverteks with the BOA Closure System only lasted me seven months (April to October), so I had them sent back to Simms Europe in Norway. A few weeks later I got a call from Exclusive Flyfishing: Simms gave me a refund and I could pick out some new boots. This being the third pair of wading boots in only eighteen months, one could possibly think that I have some womanlike shopping issues. But having been fishing with thigh boots for the last month, I am very much looking forward to get back to wading boots again. They provide much more comfort and grip when out and about on the shoreline.

The models I could choose from were the Simms G3 Guide Boot or the new 2016 Headwaters. On my recent trip to Kerry Henry Gilbey wasn’t too excited about the new Guide Boots (see his blogpost here), so the choice was made fairly easy. Moreover I had to pay a bit extra for the Guide boots and let’s just say my investment in a pair of Simms wading boots hasn’t really been satisfying up till now – to say the least. But I have to give the people at Simms Europe props for providing me with new boots without any hassle whatsoever once again.

So what about the Headwaters boots? They are the newest addition to the Simms wading boot range – check here for more info – and look nothing like most of the boots you’ll find when searching the internet for them. Right now I can’t tell you much more really: the end of the Dutch bass season is in very close sight, so I’ll have to wait until next year to give my new wading boots a proper go. In the course of 2016 I’ll see how the Headwaters will perform and report back on them later on. Let’s just hope the third time’s the charm.
