its surely 90% due to a combination of nostalgia and the difference inhow theyre portrayed but smth that is endlessly funny to me is how i genuinely despise edwin murray as a man more than W.Afton.

imo the writing of W.Afton is arguably more fleshed out atp but i prefer my admittedly mostly-headcanon idea of W.Afton's motivation as being like, dude whose first kill mightve been accidental but he enjoyed it and now fears hell due to knowing hes irredeemable. whereas Edwin is a whiny fucking shit who never listens to his wife and mourns her death in a very unemotional way.

Replaced her with a fucking robot that did household chores but in her voice but kept none of her actual personality. edwin is literally never portrayed in SoTM as like, actually loving his wife LMAO she fucking dies and edwin goes "MY life is ruined, you werent even supposed to go" bro?????? me when i blame my dead wife for dying and now i actually need to take some fraction of responsibility for my kid

And honestly I think one of the best most disrespectful details is the birthday cakes. Fiona makes circular, multi-tiered cakes for her son's birthday, whereas M1 makes a simple, likely singular box cake mix literally because edwin is as robotic as the M1. the cake becomes the most default, generic cake possible because to BOTH edwin and M1, the idea is "birthday parties need a cake" instead of "i love my son im going to make something special for my special birthday boy"

OF COURSE i am aware that W.Afton obviously also doesnt gaf about his kids at all (and wife is literally not mentioned at all within the series except maybe possibly through the existence of ballora) but the difference in seeing W.Afton's actions and moreso results of said actions as opposed to edwins words being his main form of sharing his story i think changes a lot for me in how i percieve it.

like the absolute horror of murdering children for your shitty excuse for science is i guess easier to digest due to being more far-fetched. still terrifying and what drew me into the series in the first place when I myself was a lost child but like Steel Wool really did a good job makin sure I fuckin HAAAAAAATE edwin's bitchass. whatever.
