We are joking with this once in maouemi's server. 😆 The possibility for it to happen wasn't none anyway. Because, we probably forget about Suzuno who already confess to Maou as well right? There's possibility that person was also Suzuno, or the other random girl. However even for the plot, Suzuno is the better choice than some random girl at this point haha. 😜
And, I already read vol 20 LN from @mittens-220 translation.. and Wagahara, wrote his opinion regarding Maou and Emi's relationship in his authors note at the end of story of vol 20:
"... Even if the other party is a family member, lover or friend, this point (personal habit in house, such as your habit when cleaning bathroom , bath, brush teeth, using water, etc) cannot be overlooked when living together. When I (wagahara) was writing this book (vol 20), my surrounding environment will always make me feel deeply that this is the secret to maintaining a long term relationship.
Two people whose habits in various areas were different since they were born are going to start living together, this is one of the important points in the plot of this book.
The two people who wanted to fight and kill each other for next to no reason at the beginning finally learned to solve problems through conversing, so if it is possible, the author does not wish for them to revert to the relationship where they have to fight and kill each other.

That's why, based on his note from mittens's translation, I think Wagahara already planned this since a long time ago, he was aware with every development between Emi and Maou's relationship. And if he, the writer himself said that whole kind of thing already but in the end he only leave readers to have an ending with such random girl after himself built Maou and Emi's relationship to that kind of extent, it was like destroying his own series right?
