Welcoming Stockton dogs to Wagaroo
Recently we were asked to publish dogs available for adoption at the Stockton Animal Shelter and through the shelter’s adoption partner, Animal Protection League. These dogs present a special case for Wagaroo so we want to share the important details with our community, especially those of you in an active dog/puppy search.
As you probably know, the city of Stockton is under extreme financial stress. When a city and its citizens are in crisis, so are its animals. Large numbers of pets are being surrendered to the Stockton animal shelter at the same time that the shelter’s budget has been reduced. Many Bay Area organizations and rescues are reaching out to help by bringing Stockton dogs into their own adoption programs.
When we were asked to help the dogs from Stockton, we knew we had to find a way to support these people and animals in need. First, we have offered our owner support services so Wagaroo can help individuals rehome their dog (if we can’t find a way to help them keep their pet), avoiding a trip to the shelter altogether. Second, we offered to list some of the dogs available for adoption at the shelter. We can’t list all of them every day because there are simply too many. We hope that our sample, which will change daily, will pique the interest of some interested adopters.
Why is this a special case for Wagaroo? An important part of our commitment to an excellent customer experience is listing rescues and shelters that share this commitment. When we introduce you to one of our listing nonprofits, we are confident they have dedicated resources to go the extra mile for their potential adopters. We can’t make you that promise at a high-volume shelter like Stockton. Certainly, there are incredibly dedicated, compassionate people working and volunteering there; however the volume of dogs they work with daily means that you won’t see perfect photos. Some of the dogs may not be named yet. It’s a very different environment than a foster home or no kill shelter.
Now for the good news. What you will see in Stockton is a variety of dog breeds, ages, shapes, and sizes! Maltese? Yes. Labs? Yep. Cairn Terrier? Yes. Min Pin? Yeppers. Queensland Heeler? You betcha. And more good news. Many veterinarians will provide you with an initial exam for free if you adopt a dog/puppy, no matter where you adopted. So, if you are someone that is pursuing dog adoption but haven’t found the right breed yet, this could be a good option for you.
