Update Finished

Okay, so it’s only 11:00 now, and the update is already finished: the server is back up and running!

Last time I came on, I announced a building contest for which I asked players to build their own library. The only limits were the length and width in which everyone had the same space to build to keep things fair.  Only one player entered, and that is our first server player, SoccerRocker67!  Although he gets 1st place by default, I think he would’ve placed with his very cozy library:

As I mentioned in that announcement, I moved, and that has kept me busy.  However, I have not forgotten this server or the players and am happy to answer any questions through the “Ask” tab on the homepage.  Additionally, any librarians who continue to tend the Minecraft server can answer questions in person.

If you missed the contest, feel free to use a lot to try and build a library anyway. You may not earn any of the fabulous prizes given in May, but maybe a small gift might be in order.  If you have suggestions for a future contest, leave them in the “Ask” tab on the homepage.

Server Update 7/9

Hello all,

It’s July 9th, and I am about to do a long overdue update to the server. Expect the server to be down for no more than an hour (before midnight) while we update the server to work with the newest game version.

5/19 First WAGGIN Contest + Departing Admin!

Hi WAGGIN Players!

This is iLiM: Some of you may recognize my username because I often come on the server to monitor things in the game, interact with you guys, leave notes in game and on the blog, and I created the base.

I wrote last week that we were interested in beginning a competition on the server!  This announcement was a little delayed because I am currently training new server admins.  I will be leaving the WAGGIN system and wanted to judge at least one competition while I was still around.

Because we are a library system, I think it would only be appropriate that our first contest would be a building competition for you to make your own libraries!  An area of the world has been settled so that everyone can claim a place and enter!  This space can be found at coordinates 0, -50 (You will see signs, fenceposts, and empty lots designating the usable spaces).  Here are the rules:

1) The contest begins at 4:00PM on Friday, May 20, and will end at 9:00PM on Monday, May 30 (so you guys can have up through the long weekend).  Any entries that remain incomplete by this time will be judged as they stand.

2) Only entries that are created in a lot within the designated space will be considered.  If we notice a large number of entries, we will add more lots accordingly.  You may only use the space that is given in one lot, all of which are the same width and length, but you may build it as high as you want.

3) Only one entry per player is permitted.  If multiple entries by one player are found, any and all entries may be disqualified.

4) Any players that suffer griefing on their entry during the competition may be granted a benefit such as extra time to repair their entry or extra points for judging.  If a player is found guilty of griefing another player’s entry, their own entry will be disqualified, and they will be punished as decided by the admins and the Code of Conduct.

So what do you get for entering?  The prizes are as follows:

All participants who do not place will be granted the following: - A cake, - A leather armor set, - A golden sword, - Three bookshelves

Third place will earn a player: - Two cakes, - A golden armor set, - A golden sword, - Four bookshelves

Second place will earn a player: - Two cakes, - An iron armor set, - An enchanted iron sword, - Six bookshelves

First place will earn a player:

- Two cakes, - An enchanted iron armor set, - A diamond sword, - A shield, - Eight bookshelves

5/11/16 - Server Is Back On!

Hi all,

Just letting you know that the update for the server came up, so we’ve got everything back online!

Also, just a reminder that if you notice anything missing since the last griefing incident, let us know through the server’s in-game chat or the blog.  We want to make sure that everyone has what they’ve earned.

If you have any other questions, comments, or concerns regarding the server, let us know on here, in the in-game chat, or in person to your WAGGIN Minecraft librarians.

5/10/16 - Server Temporarily Down!

Hi all,

As you may notice, logging into the server probably comes with an error message like “outdated server, I’m still running on 1.9.2!” Because the server is hosted by a company, we often have to wait a day until the server receives an update that will continue to run the game and all the plug-ins properly.  Until then, there’s really nothing we can do.  We will, of course, tell you here when the server is back online.

Also, one of our librarians has added information about our server to the WAGGIN website, which can be found here: http://waggin.org/minecraft/ Most of this will be information you’ve already heard from your librarian when you signed up, but it’s a good place to check the Code of Conduct if you ever need a refresher.

Lastly, we are considering hosting our first competition for WAGGIN Minecrafters on the server!  We’re hoping that once more players get used to checking the tumblr, we can easily communicate the times, rules, prizes, etc. and get a lot of you involved.  The best case scenario is to announce it at the beginning of next week (maybe 5/16?) and have a specific area of the world dedicated to the competition.

Griefing and Maintenance

Hi all! We’re doing quick server maintenance for the next hour (looking to be done by 5:00), in case anyone has connection issues.  This is both to update the server and try new plug-ins.  Why?  Well, another griefer has caused issues and stolen a LOT of items from other players, so we’re trying a new method to prevent this.  The offending player has been banned, and if you are missing any items as a result, please write a message in the server’s in-game chat, reach out through the blog, or contact a Minecraft librarian.  We’re very sorry about the inconvenience, and want to do our best to remedy the situation. Also, we will be demonstrating the server from 5:00-6:00 as part of the MakerSpace program provided by WAGGIN, so feel free to hop on and show off your work or tell us why you like the server! We hope you continue to enjoy your time on the server!

Important! Land Claims

For those of you who have visited the server in the last few weeks, you may notice a message that will teach you how to claim land.  This is a new feature that will help with griefing issues, and you may feel free to use this method when you build your own homes.  We ask, though, that you PLEASE do NOT use this method in the starter homes (aka the apartments aka the base)!  The starter homes are intended as a meeting spot/safe haven for players, and with the proximity of the rooms, it will be difficult for one player to utilize their space if another player accidentally makes a claim that affects their room.

As I mentioned, this is a feature that helps prevent griefing, and is one of many new features that have been implemented to do so.  Technology is not perfect, so if you notice something suspicious, please feel free to contact a Minecraft librarian by reaching out through the “ask” tab on the blog’s front page.  We will still do our part to monitor activity as well!

Code of Conduct for WAGGIN Minecraft

The following message regards behavior on the WAGGIN Minecraft server.  Guidelines for expected behavior (and punishments for those who do not follow them) are as follows:

1) Respect other players!  You may be playing with a username, but the librarians took your real names when you signed up.  You should behave around others and their property as you would irl.  This is an over arching rule that breaks up into a few, more specific rules:

-ABSOLUTELY NO GRIEFING!  Any destruction, alteration, or theft of another player’s property is never okay.  Depending on the severity of the griefing, players can expect anything from a warning to a ban.  An appeal can be made to a server-administrating librarian regarding a ban, but we will reserve the right to keep the ban permanent should we decide that your behavior is not appropriate for this server.

-Keep the chat family-friendly.  This is an under-18 server.  You may be playing with someone your age, or older, or younger.  Use of curse words, hateful language, harassment, or any kind of bullying will not be tolerated.  Censors are already in place for cursing, but if we see any harassment between players, the offending players will be met with a 24-hour ban.  If the player continues to offend others through inappropriate language, they will be banned permanently.

-Do not attack other players without a clear agreement that they would like to engage in a Player vs Player battle.  Players who attack others for the sake of looting/theft and harassment will face a 24-hour ban.  If a player continues to rob and harass others through constant fighting, they may be banned permanently.

2) Cheating will not be tolerated.  The server is meant for social and creative purposes, so we expect everyone to play on equal terms.  Depending on the effects of a cheat (and especially if it affects other players), a player who uses cheats while on the server may face a ban as short as 24 hours to as long as a permanent one.

3) If you see something, say something (and use very clear language).  The librarians who started this server monitor activity and chat logs regularly, so if you are being harassed or see something suspicious, write it in the chat log.  Even if we are not on, we will see it as soon as we’re able to check.
