March 17th, and today we celebrate Muay Thai day. It was chosen in order to celebrate the “father of Muay Thai”, Nai Khanom Tom. It is very common to celebrate by honoring the teachers through the wai khru (explained below) and by having ceremonial fights throughout the day. We’re not in Thailand, but as a constant practitioner of this martial art, it is imperative to show respect by abiding those specific rules of the sport. Learning it is not hard, just watch out for the knees. If you must know, Every movement is done 3 times. LOVE • RESPECT • BELIEVE • The wai khru ceremony (Thai: พิธีไหว้ครู, pronounced [wâːj kʰrūː]) is a Thai ritual in which students pay respects to their teachers in order to express their gratitude and formalize the student–teacher relationship.
