Angelicness radiated from his eyes, and gentle laughter sang from his lips. It was a rare unguarded moment in Eddie Munson’s life. He didn’t let just anyone see the person buried deep beneath his flesh and bones. For the most part, that Eddie stayed silent and asleep because there wasn’t a place for him in the world; the world had seen to that long ago. But when he spent time with Chrissy, the other Eddie slowly began pushing his way back to the surface. He wanted to be seen again, at least in the presence of her.
“I promise it won’t be that scary. If it is, you can hide behind me,” he smiled wide, waving the movie tickets for Friday The 13th Part VI: Jason Lives in front of Chrissy. They had agreed that if she could pick the candy, Eddie got to pick the film. Now, he wondered if she regretted that decision. He could certainly have picked something a bit milder. Yet, perhaps part of him was betting on being used as a shield.
