close but no cigar!! also knowing pyrope does mean i have to call the homestuck police but i also have to call them on myself so what are you gonna do. AND also. it’s hard to read because tumblr squished the image and i wrote it in cursive so i don’t blame you at all but that mountain actually says “Beedub” and is named for the hermit bdubs!!

honestly i doubt anyone would be able to guess it purely because there aren’t that many people who will see the map at all and the relative audience of this person doesn’t necessarily overlap with the audience for this fic, and as said it’s an obscure reference (the person’s subscriber count is less than 1 mil)

and also you would have to figure out who the person is based on the names of other things in close proximity to their name.

so maybe someone could get it using those clues? but i don’t expect anyone to lol. later tonight i’ll reveal the answer (and a bonus spoiler for free) if no one gets it.

hell yeah i’m excited too!! i just spent half an hour discussing a plot point from the end of the story with my seniormost beta reader (aka the one most used to my bullshit) to make sure it made sense both logically and thematically heehee

like a good 40-50% of my waking hours are devoted to thinking about or writing this story at this point lmao. i also just finished fixing the map so it matches with the current canon. it looks kinda sick ngl

I'VE BEEN DOING THAT FOR YEARS, THIS IS SO COOL THAT MY FAV AUTHOR DOES IT TOO OMG

yeah it’s a great way to get to know the setting!! im kind of a huge nerd about mapping lmao, i’m not that good at it but i like to at least have a rough map made for any stories that involve multiple locations of significance, or where travel is important to the plot in some way.

in the case of manhunt au, travel times are genuinely a critical plot component lmfao. these boys run all over the goddamn place and it takes them a long time to do it— more than 50 days!! i definitely needed a solid base for working out travel times to keep their movements sensical and understandable lmao. there are actually several versions of the map i posted, including this one which shows one character’s full path across the entire fic (mild spoilers i guess, but i don’t know how much you could even derive without context):

so basically i think maps are cool and fun and i don’t care about being good at them because that’s not what they’re forrrrr. they’re for being silly and drawing lines and going “heeheehoo that’s where my little guy walks”

also being called someone’s favorite author is actually bananas. i’m honored!! but it’s hard to even conceptualize that as an idea lmao?? it always blows my mind when someone says they reread my stuff. it shouldn’t, considering i reread fic all the time, but it’s always so surprising. but man to be someone’s Favorite Author…….. that’s just wild. im getting impostor syndrome over the stories i write about the little gay people in my phone. what the hell even pffff

in manhunt au theres just so much i want to talk about lmao but most of it is spoilers so i’m like. hm. probably shouldn’t. as for dre’s motivation, have an excerpt from chapter 5, free of charge!

unhelpful, but hopefully fun nonetheless. god i love this story they are So bitchy to each other for so long. as a small bonus i will also reveal that there is a part while they still hate each other where they have to help one another bathe and it is exactly as awkward and terrible as you’re thinking.

and for some more fun, here is a map of the main area the story takes place in! blue is for mountains and teal is for valleys/ravines. see if you can spot the many, many references i crammed into the location names lmfao:

as for atioi, the twist was genuinely the initial premise for that fic. i knew from the beginning that the time loop was “contagious” and that truly, genuinely believing the loop was happening to someone is what made you aware of it yourself. i also knew from the start that karl was also looping. in my initial outline, karl had a way bigger role in the second half of the story, primarily because things deteriorated between dre and gog in a much more serious way to the point where they needed a mediator to even have a conversation. i ended up cutting a lot of that because it was just too dark of a tone for what i was going for, and consequently karl’s involvement was dramatically reduced to keep things from feeling too cluttered narrative-ways.
