It had taken him all of three seconds upon walking into their bedroom after a long day of meetings to know that she’d need it. Reaching up and brushing a strand of hair behind her ear, brow furrowed slightly in worry he added. “I get worried when you have that look.”

It was strange how quiet things had become since Audrey had left to return to Auradon Prep, her younger sister who had been dealt a nasty hand. She still struggled to understand how things came to be the way they were, how Ben could also easily turn his back on the girl who had been his rock through most of his life. Yet, dwelling on what had happened would do none of them any good.

Her heels echoed down the hall before she entered the room, putting on a smile as she approached her mother. Briar Rose split her time between home, any duty related positions, her fiance’s and Auradon Prep. So being home felt nice, spending time with her mother even better. 

“Have you heard from Audrey? I am sure she’s gotten back to Auradon Prep by now.”
