Busting Travel Excuses – Extra Safety Tips for Solo Women
This Pinterest post relates really well to our discussion on walking and traveling as a solo woman. I personally approve of preventative measures... Some of these suggestions--such as “Don’t walk alone at night”--tie in almost directly with our conversation surrounding the buddy system and the practicality associated with it, but others seem (to me) to begin to cross into potential victim-blaming territory--such as “Don’t dress too flashy.” When a woman is told how to dress, it has legitimate reasoning behind it, but it also carries the question of blame. Whose fault is it if a woman gets accosted when walking alone and dressed in something fancier than “the locals” wear? Is it the woman’s fault for simply wearing her clothes? Especially since this info-graphic is directed specifically toward women, where is the line with the buddy system?
