My friend was messaging me on Facebook, and she accidentally typed "Steamboat Scheme Iguanas" instead of "Steamboat Shenanigans."
I have been laughing for 20 years.
It was over in a second.
Although she wasn’t even sure how it even started. So how could it be over if it never even started? But she knew that it must have a beginning because she had this feeling that it had ended.
It was definitely over, now she was absolutely certain. The sky that she was originally looking at was now gone and in its place was a white brightness. She felt as free as a leaf in the wind. She felt like she could go anywhere and nowhere at the same time, which was disheartening since she felt like she was leaving so much behind.
What was she leaving behind though? She wasn’t too sure, maybe it was a bag or a wallet? She figured looking back wouldn’t hurt her until she turned and actually looked.
It stood out like a sore thumb in the white. A simple wooden door with a brass handle. Fear filled her chest as tears began to pour from her eyes. This was it for her, the end. It really would be all over in a moment and all she had to do was open the door.
As she went to the door, she let out a sob. She didn’t want to go this way. She never thought that it would end like this. Her fingers touched the doorknob and she wiped her running nose on the sleeve.
When she began to turn the knob, she felt something. It was a sharp pain in her lungs and chest that stretched through her entire body. She let go and staggered away from the door, both of her hands pressed against her chest. She felt the shock again and this time she felt her heart start beating. She had never noticed that it had stopped. At the third shock, she fell into darkness.
Her eyes opened, the sky was back and with it came an unbearable pain. She gasped in shock and everything began to blur. Hands moved her away and in her ear she heard a faraway voice, “Welcome back,”.
It only took a second.
