Do you know the club history of HOUSE music? Do you know the individuals who were influential to its beautiful culture? Do you know what a ball is? Why should you care?
In 2016, EDM has taken over as a general label for all genres of music that aren’t constituted as Hip Hop, Rock, Cumbia, Americana & Country, just to name a few. Though it would be accurate to say EDM equals Electronic Dance Music, not all electronic music is created equal. I’d have to say what my generation and the older generations of DJs don’t understand, is why our music is being diluted and pushed under one umbrella. It’s almost like seeing an outfit that’s from the Thrift Store and calling is couture. Both are great and you can mix and match which would create an interesting and unique style, but they are not the same. IMO, what differentiates HOUSE from EDM, is the history.
