Walter Steiger is a French luxury footwear and accessories brand founded in 1932 by Walter Steiger senior in Geneva. The eldest son of the founder learned the traditional techniques and launched the first Steiger ready-to-wear line in 1966. He opened the first store in Paris in 1974, followed by boutiques in New York and London. The collection was influenced by the photographer Helmut Newton and the filmmaker Michelangelo Antonioni. The text provides a history of the firm. Illustrations include sketches and photographs by Helmut Newton, Guy Bourdin, David Bailey, Karl Lagerfeld, Gianpaolo Barbieri, Steven Meisel, Sheila Metzner, Uwe Ommer, Marco Glaviano, Oliviero Toscani, Peter Knapp, Michel Compte, Walter Chin and others.
