neo-fukuoka wanda and reset
you....
One of my other 1/2 scale artist BJDs. She’s 110cm, a Neo-Fukuoka Wanda-chan. She sits on a chair in the corner, safe from being knocked over by marauding cats :D You can see how big she is compared to 1/4 and 1/3 in the case next to her. I changed her clothes last night, and have previously strung her with the thickest elastic I could buy (she has a very odd stringing method involving dowel rods braced against the arm holes inside the torso!) She wears children’s size 1 clothing. Still needs a faceup.
Evangelion x Wanda-Chan Wonder Fest 2006
Oh my god. This is the coolest second-hand find ever.
A rare as heck 110 cm resin ball joint doll I picked up on Yahoo Japan Auctions. Her sale photos were really ugly, and she wasn’t very expensive, so I thought, “Why not sate my curiosity and see if I can rescue her?” And it turns out - she’s dang cute!
There’s no information or pictures of her that I can find online, but she was made by Neo-Fukuoka in 2004 as a Wonderfest Summer exclusive. She has a letter from the maker in Japanese that I’ll slowly read through later. She’s a representation of the Wonderfest mascots Wanda-chan and Reset-chan. I’m not sure which head is which.
Her joints are quite rudimentary, and she’s come strung with rubber bands of all things, oh my god. She has a neck mechanism that reminds me of Obitsu. Her resin is lightweight and a little plastic-y feeling, almost like fibreglass, but it feels pretty sturdy at the same time. It has some hand-casting flaws, which obviously makes sense considering Wonderfest is a resin garage kit convention. Even though her individual parts are surprisingly light, she’s very heavy to hold up with one hand. She weighs about 5 kilos.
Her hands are really cute and I love them. Her feet are small and a bit stylised. I’m actually surprised that I like the head that’s on her body in the photos - it’s like a mix between a realistic Japanese girl’s face and anime stylisation. In the sales photos she looked awful though. Her torso has lovely sculpting.
She came with eyes taped in but I removed them because they were wonky and made her look super scary! I believe she takes human sized wigs (she came with two) and she has what I think is the default goth-loli outfit set as well.
The last two photos show her sitting with the rest of my dolls, including a 105cm Dollmore Trinity Elysia. It’s not a direct height comparison but me heaving the doll up by the throat while trying to take a picture (1) was difficult, and (2) looked really horrible haha… She’s both taller and wider than Elysia, especially with her big anime head, but weighs less. There’s no way I could lift Elysia with one hand.
Can’t wait to give her a good scrub, try and string her properly, see if she can stand unaided, paint her face, and try human clothes on!
