[LYS.] Jetlagged.
( Character Development )
SHE HAS BEEN RUNNING around, almost like her head had been cut off, but what else is new there? Recent trips consist of a week home to California, one in Vegas, another to New York, a few days in Greece and a weekend in London. Only half of these occasions were work-related. She itched to be made busy. Her fingertips tingled with the need to be distracted, to feel something new, to be somewhere unfamiliar, to get lost and find her own way home.
One way or another, it would happen. She preferred for it to happen either professionally or under her sister’s supervision, though that was her logical side speaking. Raw and wild, her soul burned with the need for pure adventure, out in this jungle of a world where rules are merely friendly suggestions that really are challenges to poke fun at.
Though recently, her soul seemed to be floored by the steady beat of her heart. Scratch that. Floored isn’t the right word. Alyss wasn’t good with putting words to these things anyway, but she knew that her world hadn’t stopped, just… had a strange consistency in her life that was quite foreign to her normal roller coaster lifestyle.
Another part of this strange feeling included a constant longing, but not one like her nagging travel bug that sprung up at the nastiest of times. This was like leaving your favorite nightie at home at a trip to France. Who goes to France alone anyways? For the first time in her life, she was homesick. But this wasn’t the same kind of homesick like when she used to be away at summer camps, or not even like when she moved from LA to Seoul. This was different. Incomplete.
It was like she was homesick, but being home didn’t make her feel better. She returned to Seoul and even made a trip overnight to spend at her family’s home in Busan. Still, there was no relief. It was like she missed aspects of feeling at home rather than just being home. She missed being surrounded by things, people, maybe a person that made her feel at home.
Now, settled back in Seoul once again, she is either going to be remedied of this strange, empty feeling, or she will run from the uncomfortable situation. What else is new there? She always wandered her way home eventually. IN fact, things we’re beginning to come together.
Past the jet lag that fogged her sense of time and reality, she knew now that she was looking for home not necessarily in location, but in cultural aspects not limited to the continents on this blue earth.
She found home in warm sheets and cat hair, in road trips and the smell of the ocean, in steady arms and the faded aroma of tobacco, in cool toned shadow palettes and curling wands at 425 degrees Fahrenheit, in her sister’s eyes and her father’s smile, in Dahye’s laugh and Caleb’s kiss, in opening themes of animes and closing credits of Disney movies, in the rolling hills of San Fransico and the canals of Venice…
One way or another, Alyss will be alright. No matter where she was, she always had a little piece of home with her, something her being was just naturally in sync with, drawn to. Though, lately, she just craved one in particular.
