INGE!!!! Fanfic idea!!!! Enjonine based on the Wildest Dreams music video!!!! Like they're actors and he has a bad reputation because he's grumpy and super political but hot af and she has to work with him and they have a passionate love affair and like... It could be so beautiful...
She almost didn’t take the job because of him.
Gabriel Enjolras had a terrible reputation. Sure, he was talented - one of the best actors of his generation - but he was a total pain in the ass. A perfectionist who could always find fault in any script, any scene, any actor. He refused to do a great many things that other actors would have killed for - but he was the great Enjolras, and that meant that the offending scenes would get rewritten, the writers and/or actors fired until the entire production was up to his exacting standards.
So when her agent told her that the studio was in talks with Gabriel fucking Enjolras for the male lead in the new Javert, she almost didn’t show up for the callback. Fantine had to beg and beg until Eponine finally decided to go - the asshole was never going to approve of her anyway. She was too raw, too untutored for someone who only held stock in fancy acting techniques that a girl from the mean streets of Brooklyn was never going to come across.
But then she got hired. Javert saw something in her, for some reason. He fought the studio (they wanted a Name for this, and someone not so… ethnic) and his reluctant lead (Enjolras remained unimpressed by anyone) to get her the job.
It was a coup. She had to take it, even though playing a romance with Gabriel “Asshole” Enjolras was going to take all of her considerable acting skills.
Their official introduction at the table read was basically a train wreck. No one was able to look away as Enjolras looked down his nose at her and she “accidentally” stepped on his feet in return. She wasn’t just going to take his stupid snobbery lying down!
He really was good at the acting thing, though. Even at the table read, where a lot of their costars still fumbled with some of the lines, Enjolras was completely convincing. Hell, she was a little bit in love with him by the end - or at least, with his character. The real guy was still a tool.
Things did not get a whole lot better during the first week on set. He stalked about like an arrogant regency era gentleman, bossing everyone around. She was the only one who wasn’t following orders - and that pissed him off so much.
Every single time she told him no, he tried to use his height - he was just so tall - to intimidate her. It never worked. Eponine Thenardier was made of stronger stuff than that.
She liked tall boys with stupid hair - so that was kind of a problem. Or, it would have been a problem if he hadn’t been such an asshole. It could still be a problem if he stuck to his old habits.
Some of his previous co-stars had been so impressed by his aloofness, his mystique, his talent, that they made a move on him. And then they were hooked - and drawn into Enjolras’ typical pattern.
Affairs, the tabloids called them. The great Enjolras had affairs with co-stars on many a movie. Men, women, whoever he wanted - whoever was playing opposite him. And now it could be Eponine’s turn.
Not that she was interested - oh sure, he was probably good for a roll in the hay, but she was not that interested. He was pretty and talented, but she doubted that he had a kind bone in his stupidly hot body. And she wasn’t going to go down that road again.
But then he opened up to her. He told her of his horrible childhood, the loss of his sister and finding a way out in acting. And suddenly he made sense, suddenly it all clicked. Because she’d gone down that road, she walked more than a mile in those shoes. She knew the relief of hiding in someone else’s skin, even just for a little while, to avoid her own issues.
They were alike. She saw that now.
It made sense to get into bed with him. He was still hot, he was always there, and a girl had needs. She needed no emotional entanglements, but she did enjoy the times they set his trailer a-rocking.
The movie progressed nicely, with their characters’ relationship getting more and more believable by the day. She no longer had a problem with the love scene - she’d done a lot worse to him and he to her.
They nailed the scene in one take.
She dumped him before he could dump her. On the day before the last day of shooting, she had goodbye sex with him and then told him to have a nice life. It’d been fun, but he was never more than a way to pass the time.
Eponine was not going to end up like Grantaire, moping and still in love three movies later. She was glad for the warning the man had given her, but she was never going to fall into that trap. This shoot had gotten her some good press, and she already had a pilot booked, with a meaty supporting role in a period drama right after that. She had shit to do.
Her bags were packed. She left Enjolras with her red lipstick marks all over his skin and a pout on his face that more than one lover had not been able to resist. She knew better - knew about the story he’d made up so that she’d think him sensitive. It was never going to be that easy with her. He might have been good at being bad - but she was better.
At the premiere, he had a pretty freckled boy on his arm, smiling happily for the cameras. She brought her childhood friend Cosette, the kindest soul in the world and the greatest nurse in the county - or the state. Eponine was happy and the great Enjolras was jealous.
It was so obvious. Oh, he was still a great actor - but she could read him so easily that he might as well have been an open book. He tried to be subtle about clinging to his date - didn’t work. His wildest dreams were not about Freckles - they were about her.
But that was the only way he’d see her - in his wildest dreams.
INGE!!!! I'm the worst! I meant to message to ask how your interview went!!!
I have a trial day tomorrow, to see if I’m a good fit... I’ve been waiting for most of last week for them to tell me something... They just keep making me jump through hoops or wait longer
I feel like a creeper lurking on your blog and I apologise for that... But have you seen demonslayingfordummies posts on Beth potentially being resurrected like you suggested in your meta?
Hey sweets wanderingmidgardian,
Hey, I'm the duchess of lurking :)
Yes I have, she's super tenacious, I love it!
My heart, wishes any and all theories would come to fruition. Unfortunately, I have no belief that it is in the cards at this point. From cast interviews to head shots... I regret to say, I back the fact our Beth is gone.
I have no illusions. See, when I did my lengthy analysis... I never dove into it with an agenda. I didn't seek to prove life. I simply sought any and all possible eggs and at the very end, entered into speculative opinion, and drew possible conclusions. As I listed, the eggs were very clear about her death. But the additional pieces all left room for a path to her survival. Now, those pieces have been shown to be misleading — not by chance, maybe in part by ignorance, but likely by intentional deception.
demonslayingfordummies has gone into further elements — FG and scripture etc., and like all interpretation, they can differ in view. I can give you mine on some of those she has raised. She makes observant speculation on that canon to prove possible life... a great attribute for an attorney, if she so chooses that profession :) Stepping out of that, objectively I don't see the bible scripture to be oddly placed. In fact it's one I'd be more than happy to be used at my service. I want to put 2 Cor 4:18 in context.
So we do not lose heart. fThough our outer self4 is wasting away, gour inner self his being renewed day by day. 17 For ithis light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, 18 jas we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. [ESV]
This is a very common scripture at services. It's poignant. It's a reminder that all things on this side of heaven are not forever. Take heart, this too shall pass. Everyday on earth we may face hardship and suffering; the weight may seem too much. Yet, the world around us may fade and break apart, but to not forget this is not our home. Look to the Lord, who is in all and above all; the one thing that never fails. The kingdom of the Lord, even if you can't see it, is the hope. It really compliments and echoes Hebrews 12:28,
Therefore let us be grateful for receiving ra kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus slet us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, 29 for our tGod is a consuming fire.
Using that with Beth, is sort of perfect. That's who she embodied. She looked at evil and chose to see the things that were unseen. The good. The hope. She knew all the bad was just temporary.... but what is eternal, what remains.... are the beautiful things.
So, when FG reads that passage, choose to see Beth for who she was. Not what they failed to show. And who knows maybe they will honor her, like she deserves.
