Harry looked up- a curious look in his eye. "What do you mean trying?" he asked her curiously. He knew that sometimes he could be difficult- he didn't mean to be, and if there was one person who's company he had come to rely on it was Hermione's.

"I'm sorry I-" he exhaled, "I know it's not easy- I'm not..." Normal? Good? There were so many words that came to mind that the sheer number of them made him scoff at himself. "I'm sorry..." he repeated, "I just don't know what I'd do without you and the thought terrifies me."

❛⠀so you remember that awful date you— well, that you didn't even get to go ? ❜ because the guy'd never shown up ? he thankfully doesn't add, wincing at himself for almost doing it, before neville gathers his next breath. refocuses.

❛⠀um, well. if you'd like, i, uh — ❜ alright. he could do this. it wasn't like he's really asking hermione out right ? he couldn't be, because hermione, she— she deserves so much more, like someone who could match her wit to wit, or could understand everything that she's doing with the ministry. and they'd be able to not only debate with her but give constructive suggestions on top of it perhaps, unlike... well, unlike neville, who really spent most of her lunches together simply listening.

( though he does like listening to her talk. and he does try to respond, always, when it's clear that she needs a feedback. but he's not nearly as smart nor engaging, he thinks. just neville with his quiet interests and a shoulder to lend and sometimes various teas for her to try. and he's fine with that. he's sure hermione's fine with it too, if she hasn't protested to their weekly meeting. )

"What do you want more than anything?" from @wandwise

The question catches him off guard- he's never let himself think this far ahead; truthfully he had never known if he was going to live this long. Green eyes dart down at the paper he'd been filling in for Hogwarts. There's a million different things he could say right now and all of them felt like only a fracture of an answer.

He wanted to become the defense against the dark arts professor at Hogwarts, he wanted to finish turning Grimmauld into a place that he could actually be proud of living in, he wanted a family- his own proper family not just one he had been adopted into.

Being in tune with his own emotions wasn't exactly Harry's strong suit- he was rather shit at it, actually- but it didn't take a genius to connect all the dots, and he knew Hermione well enough to know that she'd call him out on a non or partial answer.

"I want to be happy." Harry finally mused, "I want to feel like I've finally... like its finally over. Like we can all move on."
