My roommates are honestly falling prey to AI one by one and it is driving me nuts. "It's faster to translate." You can also use a dedicated machine translator? "I can't write this well myself, this makes the playing field more equal." No one needs you to write corporate lingo? Also what happened to being terrified of the internet because it steals all your information always? Convenience trumps fear, I guess. "Well I am in love with AI and if I had AI ten years ago I might still work as a teacher, because it's so easy to ask it for a lesson plan, which would have taken me ages to come up with." Tbh this person should not now and not ever be a teacher. And using AI would make AI the teacher, not her. Holy fuck.

But like. The most insidiuous part of it all is how there is literally no escape? I google something, I get AI (and yes I am aware of other search engines, I use them where possible). Some academic sites auto-generate AI summaries. I go out for dinner with a friend, she "quickly asks AI." I do a course where the teacher has to think up prompts. He asks AI and I have to act out AI prompts.

I fucking hate it. I hate it I hate it I hate it. And everyone I know is like "well AI is bad, but for this specific purpose I use it for it is fine."

i think what bothers me about what tim b*rton’s work has become (and like perhaps this was always an undercurrent in it that has become more prominent over time) is that it depicts a version of the experience of being a creepy outsider that’s always entirely palatable to the mainstream. with the exception of maybe beetlejuice (but even there, i feel like subsequent depictions of beetlejuice have sort of defanged him from his hilariously smarmy, slimy initial incarnation), ed wood, and sweeney todd, his misunderstood protagonists are always completely understandable and likable to a mainstream audience. whatever makes them “different” is a quirk that either makes them more endearing or is offset by other more socially acceptable qualities. i’m not really sure where i’m going with this exactly, but i suppose it irritates me bc it’s like media that poses as counterculture but, in fact, espouses utterly mainstream, establishment values.

seeing people admit they've stopped writing female muses and stick to male muses now because they're more likely to get interactions is pretty disheartening to be honest. like you are 100% part of the problem female muses are continuously overlooked and underappreciated in the rpc

i enjoyed the film for what it was, it was definitely entertaining, but this is far from the best spidey film out there because it completely lacks the core of who pe.ter pa.rker really is as a person and as a superhero. the m.cu really just further solidified that their writers either do not know or do not care about what st.an l.ee and st.eve dit.ko have written for this branch of the marvel universe because anyone that did would not push the iron boy jr. agenda for peter, nor would they have started this spidey reboot with multiple elements stolen from m.iles mor.ales’ story, who by the way is a black and latino character. not to mention that the way they handle their female characters - which they already have so little of - is terrible.

tldr it was a good film it just wasn’t the best spidey related thing that could’ve ever happened to me lol

I am sorry for the sarcasm here but I literally can’t take such accusation seriously, I am fully aware of how shitty JKR turned out to be but I can’t unread the books or unwatch the movies, I am fully aware of Wanda’s and Pietro’s heritage erasure and whitewashing in MCU but reblogging a few gifsets (that were specifically quotes that I tagged as #insp, because I don’t watch this show, I parted ways with mcu a long time ago) doesn’t make me a terrible person, while we’re at it let’s go further: running a supernatural blog while being fully aware of it’s rasism and misogyny doesn’t make me that way, reading hp lovecrafts books in the past didn’t made me a rasist in the same way that reading dostoyevsky didn’t turn me into an anti-polonist
