The unhappiness of the situation doesn’t stem from the concerned party. In fact, Clint didn’t know anyone better to watch over an emotionally compromised Russian spy. Natasha had turned out just fine under the archer’s care; The very reason Steve had chosen him to take charge of the newest addition to their little collection of super assassins. Issues arise when the man is dropped on the doorstep of his one bedroom apartment at three in the morning and he’s told to stay with Steve’s best friend at all times. Before a word of complaint can reach his mouth from the muddled brain, the Captain is gone.
He rubs the sleepiness from his eyes with the back of his hand and steps out of the doorway, ushering his new roommate in. “C’mon in, Sergent.” Really, going back to sleep feels like the right thing to do, but he knows it isn’t. Can’t just leave the man standing there in an unfamiliar space. “Y’can call me Clint. I hope you don’t mind the couch for now. I’ll show you around and you’re free to go around and check windows and doors. Move things around. Whatever makes you feel safest here.” He’s going to hate if things get changed too much, but he recognized the need for someone as trained as the soldier to check the perimeter. “You can even move into my bedroom if you feel the need to be aware of me.” Which Natasha had done, watched him like a cat watches a mouse until she knew he wasn’t going to pull a gun on her while they’re alone. Needed to see that he was out cold before finally letting herself get some rest. But Bucky was different, and maybe Steve's friendship had already helped the man stabilize.
