Onto the harem!
So our girl Sarah has been kidnapped by pirates and sold to Sultan Harun, the ruler of the whole damn Ottoman Empire!
Because I’m a nerd I checked to see who was the actual ruler of the Ottoman Empire in 1851 and...
well we can’t be right about sultans all the time can we
the sultan is actually a pretty chill guy who mainly just wants to hang out and talk about England but he is NOT being cool about sending Sarah back home for... reasons. I guess he just likes having a foreigner around the place.
The absolute best character in the harem is Sarah’s servant Nadire, and the reason she’s the best is because of the following conversation which I will paraphrase for you: Nadire: Yeah, living in this big harem kind of sucks because all the women get really emotionally and sexually frustrated. We’re not allowed to have cucumbers in here anymore. Sarah: Really, cucumbers? Why? Nadire: ... oh honey.
