Every Time MCR has Referenced The Paper Kingdom (2019-2026)
Hey guys, I have noticed a lot of people talking about the recent leaks and how the band has referenced some songs from The Paper Kingdom since their return in 2019. This post mainly serves to have all instances in one organized spot as a reference. I will not be including interviews or mentions from before the break-up or during the development of the album.
Do not ask me for the leaks, I will not be posting them.
All clips are strictly for reference and I will not be posting any songs. All clips will be as short as possible to convey the information necessary and they will all correspond to information the band has made public.
Fake Your Death
The earliest and most-well known instance of MCR acknowledging The Paper Kingdom is the official release of Fake your Death, which we now have full confirmation was track 1.
Dive
Back during their reunion tour in 2019, the band played different voice clips including Ray's Im not Okay monologue and Look Alive Sunshine. Among these audios a message of a girl singing happy birthday was featured as well, which we now have confirmation was the beginning of the song Dive.
Special Thanks to U/Birthday_girl13 on Reddit for the clip.
I went back to concert videos and the audio is very clearly the same. If you want further proof you can checkout Diet Shampoo's recording of the concert. The birthday message is at 1:40.
Witch
Back during the promotion of The Return tour, various short films and videos were released. One of these included sigils, a wheel, and a loud sound of trumpets playing in the background. The audio turned out to be the first few seconds of the song Witch. Once the song leaked, the video was taken down and reposted with no audio.
This is the post with no audio.
Below is the link for a the original video. Important to note the UK flag among the symbols in the video, as the songs Operation Day and Perfectly Well mention London as the location where the album takes place. The magic wand could also be a reference to Witch. The Tower matches the lyrics of Operation Day with the mention of a dark, isolated, and tall tower where the speaker notes it's tall enough to jump from.
Special Thanks to LauraKBuzz on Youtube for the clip.
Paper Swords
Alongside Witch, another song was also used for promotion of The Return tour. We now know the last minute of An Offering is a reworked version of the song Paper Swords.
You can hear the chant starting at 1:30. The Big Ben can also be seen at 1:08, which references London once again.
War Beneath The Rain
Finally, the most recent and biggest indicator of The Paper Kingdom since the band's return was the live version of War Beneath the Rain played 3 times as of the time of writing this. It was dedicated to their late producer Doug during the B-stage at the second LA show during the Long Live the Black Parade tour.
As much as the Paper Kingdom has been kept on the downlow, 5 songs have been acknowledged by the band, 4 of them being since their reunion post-breakup. The band may have planned to release it, rework it, or used it as inspiration for other projects we are unaware about. It is interesting to see how we were getting snippets of The Paper Kingdom all the way back in 2019 without anybody being aware of what it was. If anybody can find any other mentions or references from the recent tour let me know as well! I'm open to making a part 2.
I could get 100 hate-asks a day for the rest of my life about the morality of listening to The Paper Kingdom leak and it still wouldn't sour the profound amount of human Joy it brings me finally hearing studio recording of War Beneath The Rain, they wrote that one for me personally
