During Liberia’s second civil war, thousands of young girls were forced to become soldiers or “war wives.” To help these girls and women recover and establish normal lives, Rosana Schaack founded Touching Humanity in Need of Kindness (THINK) to offer counseling, education, health care, and shelter to women and girls affected by the war. One of the girls Rosana met was given her first weapon at age nine and fought for the next 13 years, until she was 22.
Since its founding in 2003, THINK has expanded to help victims of rape and domestic violence as well. For her efforts, Rosana was the 2012 recipient of the Vital Voices Global Leadership Award for Human Rights.
