i've got one for you. caterina. how does she deal with her immortality you think? she obv cares a lot and heals a lot of people but doesn't she feel hopeless about it sometimes? how do you think she does it i gotta learn from her
Oooh, yes. Fun fact: I really, really, really like Catarina. She's a wonderful character even if the canon doesn't delve into her that much.
I actually think that in part Catarina's need to constantly help people and heal them 24/7 is how she copes with her immortality. Like, it's clear from the books that she's almost always on call at various hospitals, at least as early as the 80s in The Last Stand of the New York Institute but probably earlier. In my mind, this constant "I-have-to-save-lives, I-have-to-save-everyone-now" mentality would make sense after the trauma of losing Ephraim as well as his descendants (Roland, etc). So she would throw herself into work, because that would give her purpose to dull the pain and grief.
As for her feeling hopeless sometimes, I'm sure she does. Even with the small amount of content we have, it's clear that she both cares deeply and feels deeply. Like, she completely illegally saved Ephraim and fled the continent with him! She's seen some of humanity's worst as well as its best (read: her mom, who she still probably grieves sometimes). So yeah, I'm sure she feels hopeless sometimes. But, as warlocks do, she perseveres, because there is nothing else to do.
I think that Catarina's immortal friends, especially Magnus and Ragnor, have been massive saving graces for her. In fact, I think that the three of them and Tessa have all saved each other every day for literally centuries. They know each other so well, and their love persists and persists and persists in a world with no other constants. So no matter what horrors life throws at Catarina, she can rely on three people who also have seen the horrors and will always be there, constantly and consistently.
