"Who cares? WHO CARES?" For a long moment he couldn't believe what he was hearing. Yes, they'd managed to take down someone high up in HYDRA's ranks, but he wasn't about to let them stand there and bleed to death. That wasn't something he did. Not in the past and definitely not now. But if she was? This was going to get worse before it even got close to being better. And that was if it got better. His instincts were telling him she was going to be nothing but trouble and that this was going to bite him in the ass. Unfortunately, Steve couldn't do much other than make certain their prisoner wasn't going to bleed out and die. They still needed to get out of there. Just because they'd managed to get someone to interrogate didn't mean their job was over. First, he needed to address her comments. Then they would leave. "He is our PRISONER and that means he lives no matter what. Understood?"

“You’re dripping blood on the carpet.”

He’d walked into his own temporary residence. Well, more like limped back to the apartment he was using as a safe house. It hadn’t been a walk in the park to get back here but it was a sign for him to that he’d extended his welcome. The agents that appeared had surprised him, Nathaniel thought he had given himself enough space between their last encounter and how wrong he had been. A handful ambushed him while he attempted to gather intel of his new surroundings. He’d only been here a couple days. Now he was realizing a couple days too many. He should have kept moving, he thought to himself mixed in with cursing in between as a hand held pressure to the bullet wound on his side. Lucky for him it was the only one he had after that fiasco. No one else had survived but that was typical when HYDRA sent agents after him. It was just a message that he was alive and they just needed to send more men, to do better next time. 

Still, he walked in and expected the small run down apartment to be empty. But then came the words from an unfamiliar voice and instinct took over. His free hand lifted the firearm for defense as blue eyes scanned his surroundings. “My bad, didn’t realize anyone would care.” He grumbled out as he took a step forward to find the source. Their eyes met his and the gun remained level despite the pain that was currently shooting through his body. “What do you want?” This might not be the best time for him to be cornered but if he had to fight then he would.

'are you mad at me?' anastasia ( @warmthbled​ ) asks and it takes phil everything to not let it anger out on her because it isn’t meant for her     . . .     “ no, ”    is all he says and the tone of his voice is still a little too harsh. sighing, he pinches the bridge of his nose, crossing his arms over his chest.    “ i am not mad at you, but this was a very close call. what happened to the agents that were supposed to be with you? ”    actually, he has a pretty good idea what could have possibly happened to them but it is not something he wants to say out loud himself. he doesn’t even want to hear it from the young woman. he sighs once more.    “ i don’t appreciate you ignoring orders. and if it happens again, i won’t drop it so easily. i make the calls for a reason. ”    and her ignoring his authority is not exactly something he wants to get used to working with. there are already several people who do that and that’s more than enough. the difference, however, is that those people have earned his trust over years and he knows thaf if they make a different call they have good reasons to do so.

☆        it wasn’t the noise that woke him up, but the tugging sense in his gut that something was wrong. Steve had experienced that feeling often since his girls had come home. falling back into the role of the parent came as easy as breathing as soon as he laid eyes on Margot, but what he hadn’t expected was how quickly the feeling would extend over to Lex. now, his gut tugged constantly, always feeling a need in the back of his mind to check on both his girls. it was that feeling that woke him up, but the soft padding in the other room was what had him getting out of bed. Steve wasn’t sure which one of the girls was up, but he wouldn’t get an ounce of sleep until he checked to make sure they were okay. 

keeping the balance between quiet enough to not wake up the kiddo that was still asleep and loud enough to alert the other one that he was awake and coming to find her, Steve moved out of his room and out to the living room. as soon as his eyes met Lex’s he sent her a soft smile. ‘ hey Goose, what’s got you awake at this time? ‘ he asked, casually trying to mask his concern. ‘ is it a hot chocolate night? ‘

"it doesn't work like that, lex," alice told her again. god, if they did things would be so much easier. unfortunately the steps and their order mattered though. it was basically a mathematical equation. alice didn't think about it like that often or she'd end up hating baking as much as she hated math.

looking at the recipe alice could figure out that lex was on the right track she was just a little off. "oh, we can do this!" she didn't say it would be easy. it was intermediate at best but they could make it working together. "we got this," alice assured her. scrolled through the recipe, and then moved to start pulling out what they still needed from the cabinet.
