okay ugly rant time and i mean really ugly. i wouldn't recommend reading, i just gotta get this out
what really bothers me lately is when i see or hear comments on how people who have attempted (or sometimes even commited) suicide, making it all about the people that surround said person. To be more clear, i'm talking about when people use 'think about what it'll do to other people' as the main argument for why not to do it.
Alright, from one side, yes it's good to remind these people of that, so that they'd be aware of that fact. but that's fucking it. it is not the curcial point in making the person change their mind about it.
Lemme tell you what's really happening when people use this. all you're doing is making the person feel more horrible and guilty (like they don't have enough reason to feel like that apperantly). the fact that this person had made this choice doesn't mean that they're ignoring the impact that it's going to have on others, they're in too much pain, agony or whathefuckever to consider that(the people surrouding them) as a reason to stay. So really when people go on and on about 'just think about how much pain you'll put us in, don't you care about us at all?' that's just making the person more miserable and putting on more weight on their already existing problems
And that usually leads to the person being guilt tripped into living. not because they want to or have overcome their problems, but because they were practically bullied into it. they just felt so horrible about it all and made the decision to not bring these people any more worries (even tho that plan is doomed to backfire).
and that's not the way it should be. a person should want to live for himself and his own life and not for the sake of others. it is great when other people support or inspire them to do so, but in the end it's them alone who are left standing.
i made this because i've just seen and heard this so much and it has made me very angry for about half a year and i couldn't hold it in any longer. people should convince those who are troubled why it's worth for them to stay and fight rather than dwell on the concequences. staying alive just for the sake of others can be barely called living.
