Warpman July 12, 1985 // Family Computer
This game starts off as an omnidirectional shooter in space, but once you do the titular warp, you end up in a maze and the gameplay becomes literally Bomberman. Although we won't see it on Famicom for months, Bomberman has apparently been out on Japanese PCs for a couple years at this point, so you would think these guys ripped it off. Except this is actually a sequel to an arcade game called Warp & Warp which had the same gameplay! So who is the original Bomberman? The world may never know There is the twist here that you can set the timers of the bombs by holding the button for a longer or shorter time when you lay them down. The game is pretty fun, although not very challenging until you've cleared a good number of levels.

12/07/1985 - Happy 31st birthday Warpman!! Released exclusively for the Famicom, this Namco classic is often seen as an updated version of the 1981 arcade release Warp & Warp. Taking control the astronaut; Warpman, it's your mission to destroy an array aliens with your ray gun while out in space. That's not all! A second world is accessed by warping through a black hole. Presented with a maze like screen, Warpman defend himself with bombs, planting them near enemies, similar to how Bomberman would. For those who enjoy Classic Namco arcade style games, you should check it out! #famicom #thisdayingaming #warpman #nintendo #importgaming
