It took little time after them returning to Hogwarts for Remus to hunt down the one person he really wanted to talk to. Mere hours had passed. He prioritised food, of course, because the options at the Ministry had been closer to Lupin standard than Potter or Hogwarts standards and Remus knew James needed to mother him a little while longer until he had a full stomach. Then, with all of them having their own people they wanted to talk about the events of the last few days with, it was easy for Remus to split up from them and find Macnair.

“I think we need to talk,” he hissed into his ear as he passed him in the corridor. Without a glance over his shoulder, he opened the door of a nearby classroom.

He had cast a privacy spell around himself to sit in the corner of the room and quickly check the Map. It was more complicated than he had hoped, though, to find anything out of the ordinary. So many names overlapped each other on the Great Hall it was impossible to read them. There were groups — couples, really — split off in various alcoves nearby or walking through the grounds and others in their common rooms and dormitories already but Remus ignored those. All in all, nothing he was going to fret over but something to be aware of all the same.

And there was his date, just outside the Great Hall, alone. Possibly getting some innocent fresh air but Remus was with him for a reason.

The Map was tucked into a hidden inside pocket in his jacket when he stepped out the Great Hall and his eyes fell on Walden Macnair. “There you are,” he said, as if he had been looking for him. “It’s getting a bit crowded in there, isn’t it? I wondered if you fancied a walk.” He indicated to the Grand Staircase. While there had been some students outside, there had also been Aurors there and enough people he hoped they would keep each other safe. It was those in quiet wings of the castle who concerned him more.
