Arachnid Xenomorph
Galoob, Bug Warrior I've traveled back to my home land and wanted to show off some of my babies. Here is one of my favorites, the bug warrior from Starship Troopers. Part of my collection of figurines and toys. Stay tuned for more!
A look at the Figma Warrior Bug from Starship Troopers. This figure was on display at Wonhobby Gallery 2019 Autumn. #スターシップトゥルーパーズ #フィグマ #starshiptroopers I ...
This garbage proto-mechanism took way too long to assemble, it still has some hiccups, looks like shit, but IT'S WORKING!
mwahahaha
(Yes, expect shitty photos on this blog)
Case study: I had to take my measurements (height of hip, knee, shoulders, full body height) to start calculating the size of the whole costume. Solution: MASKING TAPE
(FYI: masking tape is a paper tape that works like Post-It: it can be removed without trace from most surfaces, if you don’t want to tear off your wallpaper or the plaster. NEVER USE duct tape or the usual plastic tape on walls - but masking tape is completely safe. It’s also super easy to tear off a piece by hand, you don’t need scissors, and it’s still quite strong to hold stuff up)
Stand next to a suitable wall. Basically, wrap yourself onto the wall, become one with it. Take care to stand straight, but not on your tiptoes.
Take a small bit of tape and stick it right over the top of your head (in a horizontal line): that’s your full height (note: I was standing on a platform, because I’ll need platform shoes for this costume)
Continue to stick on smaller, horizontal bits of tape to similarly note the height of your knee (if it’s important where your legs bend), or your hips, your shoulders. For example, I needed my butt height too!
After you have small bits of tape marking the top of your head and chin, shoulders, armpits, waist, hips, derriere, knees, comes the difficult part: drawing the rest of your outline is a bit tricky. But it doesn’t have to be perfect! (note: that’s not how I look in real life :D) Just make a frigged-up stick-people version of your outline: it’s only for taking measurements and seeing yourself inside the costume. You don’t have to like artistically shape your calves!
It turned out to be an ingenious solution: I can keep it on the wall for a longer time and simply take off later, and I could start sketching out the silhouette. Also, this method supports Ctrl+Z: if you lay down a line and it doesn’t look good there, you just lift it again and stick it back a couple inches further.
You can go on and correct all the little details until you’re satisfied, and then you can take your measurements. For example, I played around with the length of the bug legs until I thought it looks nice and measured them after that.

Working title “this idea is so dumb and impossible it needs to be put down on paper”.

Starting point - Starship Troopers
Starship Troopers tells the story of Juan Rico, a youngster who joins the elite Mobile Army at the outbreak of the Bug War. He survives boot camp, rises rapidly through the enlisted ranks through heavy attrition, is culled off for Officer Training School, and survives his first experience as a platoon commander. Rico goes on to become a confident commander, passing to younger officers the wisdom he has absorbed from many mentors.
The book is set in the distant future when intergalactic space flight and warfare are in day to day life. Humankind, which has colonized the Solar System and expanded to galaxies beyond, has clashed with rival colonizing races, the most menacing being the highly evolved, antlike Bugs.
There are many different types of bugs featuring in Starship Troopers, each with a different ability, skills and stats and each have a weakness and a certain way they have to be killed.
The Warrior Bug - very aggressive, high agility in any combat environment. Exo-armour can withstand temperatures above 500 Celsius and low intelligence. Weapons: Cutting/chewing jaws.
The Tanker Bug - Very aggressive and fast in tight situations. Contains a tank of bio-corrosive fluid. Weapons: Sprays highly bio-corrosive fluid.
The Hopper Bug - Very aggressive, jumps a lot and has a short flight capability. Weapons: Cutting/chewing jaws.
The Plasma Bug - Non-aggressive, generates a one time only high energy plasma blast only when it has been in contact with the breeder. Weapons: High energy plasma.
The Chariot Bug - Non-aggressive except in large numbers they will stampede. Function is to carry and transport larger bugs and Queens. Weapons: Cutting/chewing jaws.
The Brain Bug - Very large, aggressive when confronted. Believed to have intuitive and psycho-kinetic powers. Weapons: Piercing type of claw or palp.
