I love how What We Are Seeking creates a universe in which queerness really is shown to just be a natural, default thing everywhere, and that queer people are everywhere. The Ischnuran third gender identity was formed even after what seems to be a dark age for trans people in the in-universe past. Zandahe, despite being conservative, space Christian planet, still has queer people!

So the queers are definitely taking over Scythia in like one or two centuries, right? There are already four other people lined up to take the jess vow!!

Maybe due to personal bias, as soon as I started reading What We Are Seeking, I expected John to transition or come out as trans at some point in the story. I still do think he's an egg, especially with Iren's comment about him mothering people.

But I wonder if he's only an egg on Scythia. John seemed happy or at least content in his role as a man on Essius, but on Scythia, he is very much gender non-conforming because of his Essian cultural upbringing. I wonder if he will be content in this role (which he does seem to be), or if he will eventually reach a level of discomfort in the hybrid Ischnuran-Zandahean culture that forms to want to transition.

I think my favorite part of What We Are Seeking by Cameron Reed is the scene where Iren talks about how every trans person is part of a tradition that has been part of humanity since our beginning

Sometimes I wish I was less of a coward and let you talk to me after that final message. I’m not quite sure what I would’ve wanted to hear though. I had to do it though. If I don’t cut you off completely then it would only pain me further. It was definitely the right thing to do at the time.

I wonder how you felt after reading my message. What was in your mind. Was it pain? Regret? Relief perhaps? Only god knows now. Did you see it coming? I suppose in some ways, I guessed that you did, but you were too afraid to confront it and just prayed that everything would be well.

I want you to be happy. But the selfish side also wish that you would rot in regret for the rest of your life and never move on. Anyways. I wouldn’t know either ways. I guess if you wanted to, or dared to reach out to me, it’s certainly not impossible. However now that we’ve gone our separate ways, it’s better to stay that way.

To be honest, you’re probably happily living your normal life right now and couldn’t care less about me. I wish I could be the same.

Chat I think I have developed the worst hyperfixation 😭

Earlier today I saw a video on my fyp of a person rating World disaster alarms (as they put it) and I instantly got hooked.

I now think I am hyperfixated on EAS’s (emergency alarm systems)

Like they have a fandom but it’s just people who like the actual sirens (like what make/model they are) but I’m DEFINITELY not into that? I think it’s kinda a mix of my old creepy pasta loving kid coming out and the history behind these? Like learning about the Blitz that happened in ww2 where these were just constantly blasting so interesting, and I think it’s also just partially me just liking a lot of the noises.

It also sucks to like bc like WHOS GONNA WANT TO TALK ABOUT SIRENS AND WAS’S AND EAS’S AND AIR RAID SIRENS WITH ME?

Idek if this hyperfixation is gonna stick though, or if it’s just gonna be a day long thing, or even just a week long thing but, we’ll see. I’m kinda hoping it stays for a while bc it’s sooo interesting!
