The High Bridge over the Harlem River, circa 1900. Built in 1848, the High Bridge spanned the #HarlemRiver connecting the #Bronx to #Manhattan to transport clean water via the new Croton Aqueduct. The High Bridge was modeled after the great #aqueducts of the Roman Empire and remained in use for the #Croton water system until 1955. The deck remained in use as a pedestrian bridge until the 1970's when it was closed due to vandalism. The city began restoring the bridge in 2012 and it officially reopened in 2015.
