I wanted to hear all those times Aaron was on the phone with Robert. Just Imagine...
“How are ya?””
“I should be the one asking...”
“Aaron, I'm fine.” - he sighed.
“I'm not.” - he whispered.
“Aaron, please...”
“I miss you, Robert.”
“I miss you too.”
“I want you here.” - he sobbed
“Just talk to me, I wanna hear your voice for a little bit more.” - Aaron didn’t answer at first so Robert took a deep breath - “Come on, we don’t have long, please Aaron.”
“I love you, I love you....” - he repeated sniffing.
“Do me a favour yeah? Have a drink, and watch that documentary I was on about. It should be on telly by now.”
“I hate documentaries.” - said Aaron and Robert smiled at his reaction because for a moment he sounded like a sulking child.
“I know, but I need you to tell me about it when I call ya tomorrow.”
“Okay.” - said Aaron immediately, and Robert know how hard it was for him. He felt the same. But he wanted to be strong for him. He had to.
“Well, that was easy.”
“You know I’d do anything for you, right?”
“I know.” - he said and they both went quiet for a while. - “Come on, tell me something else.”
“Like what?” - his brain was empty. Apart from Robert he really had nothing to say, nothing to think about.
“Anything, how’s Liv? Is she getting on with her math homework? Tell her she still needs to do it, just because I can’t help her now.”
“I tell her.” - he smiled, but Robert could hear it in his voice. He was crying.
“Good, look I gotta go. Same time tomorrow?”
“Yeah, I love you Robert”
“Lova you too.” - he whispered before the line went dead. Aaron stood there in the middle of the living room, with a tight grip on his phone. He looked around. He wanted to get hammered anyway, might as well watch that documentary for Robert. At least they will have something to talk about.
He never thought he could cry about nature and animals... it’s just one more thing that reminded him of Robert. Not like he could focus on anything else.
He sighed before he opened another beer. He won’t have much sleep tonight either.
