Dinner #4
Date #2
Who: Cecily
Relation: Old friend who I haven’t hung out with in a while.
Menu: Sauteed red pepper in coconut oil in a lettuce wrap
Source: Earth Origins
Cecily and I have been through a lot of phases together.. This date was a bit different. She actually took me to Earth Origins to pick up the food. We went to the back room and then were given two boxes of produce and a whole wagon of coconut oil! “See don’t you miss hanging out with me?” I hold a lot of importance in exposing my non-artistic friends to weird situations like this as much as possible.
So a lot of the food WAS actually bad. But the huge amount of coconut water made for a great snap chat and even greater party favors for our potluck that night. Cecily and I whipped up some sauteed peppers with coconut oil in a lettuce wrap. Our dinner was a total of 8 minutes. I guess it was a mixture of the fact that we had been together throughout the whole process while also knowing that there was a huge potluck about to go down in my house. I will say though...that meal was fire. The best meal I’ve had in a while.
Date #1
Who: Jen
Relation: roommate
Menu: Compost Stirfry
Source: Tempo Bistro To Go
I talked about myself a lot. I sauteed some vegetables from the compost from Tempo Bistro to Go. It was questionable to be honest. However they gave me the sturdiest boxes.
Restaraunt Update- Friday, Oct. 9
I rode my bike to Crane Ramen, The Jones and Daily Green today. The Jones says I need to hand them a hard copy letter. Crane Ramen had me leave my number. Called me an hour later. “We can’t legally give you anything but come in Tuesday morning and we’ll talk to the chef."Daily Green said YES.
Went to Earth Origins to pick up some food. They took me to the back room and gave me a whole shopping cart of coconut water and 2 huge boxes of produce. Some was actually bad but a lot was salvageable.
I dropped off the collection bucket on Tuesday morning at 11:15 am. I woke up wanting to go on a run but instead I laid back in bed and read for class. My body still feels \weird like it has all this energy that needs to be burned off. Any way tomorrow I will probably try to go to Wards and one more restaurant in order to get next weeks food.
Announcing the Waste Date Project
Over the course of 3 weeks, October 5-October 25, I must host 15 intimate dinner dates with 15 different people for a minimum of 1 hour. The food at the date must have been free and about to be thrown out at a local food establishment in Gainesville, FL. The furniture in the room must be made out of food containers from the same food establishment. These dates will take place in a small back house of 1416 NW 10th Ave that will be devoted to this project for it’s duration.
Follow along here for daily updates on the process of getting food establishments and people to participate.
