one drink turned into three, the bitter-orange of an aperol spritz lingering as the room softened around her—but she’d known they’d be here, had heard about the relationship weeks ago and pretended it hadn’t lodged itself somewhere under her skin. it’s different confirming it, though—hearing the way their new partner leans in like they belong there, sitting pretty in their pictures together, like brynn hadn’t once held that space without even trying—and it burns sharper than she’d expected. she tells herself it doesn’t matter, that she was the one who ended it, that i don't feel it anymore had been enough—but the truth presses heavy in her chest, because she’d loved them too much, more than she knew how to carry. before she can stop herself, she’s crossing the bar, heels unsteady but determined, stopping just close enough to disrupt. her smile is practiced, a little off, eyes glassy as they lock on theirs. “wow,” she hums, flicking a glance at the person beside them before settling back, “that was quick… or am i supposed to pretend i’m happy for you?”
