How many Ocs you got? I think I've only seen 3
@the-ideaist ☺️💖
This took a while to write out! I’ve got 6 major ocs, across two entirely separate stories/worlds. I switch between them every couple of years when my interest changes! Currently I’ve been working almost entirely on Watch Gods.
Watch Gods stuff is in this tag here (but also sometimes ‘Harry and Lockjaw’ especially for older content). Harry (green, bald, horns) and Lockjaw (green, ray of sunshine, has hair) are my oldest, they’re coming up to 11 years old, created them in 2005 (actually just checked last night). By proxy this also includes the antagonist of their story, Das Uru, who, thematically, has been around for about the same amount of time but, as a rebooted concrete character is about 5 years old.
Watch Gods is about Harry and Lockjaw, who are both goblins, though Harry is also a very young demigod. They live on Mono, a planet who is a living organic being and god, and their story is about them getting into trouble, conspiracies, and also the apocalypse. Demigods are a big facet of Mono; the gods are physically self-exiled and demigods act as a bridge of communication between mortals and demigods living on Mono and the gods above. In the story, Lockjaw ends up getting mistakenly assigned (through bureaucratic error) onto what’s basically a murder mystery - demigods have been going missing or just turning up plain ol’ solid dead (they don’t age, but can be bumped off with some effort). Harry, an abbott and cleric, is forced to babysit Lockjaw, who’s very much out of his depth and experience and has never even seen a demigod until Harry, as a glorified tour guide and bodyguard. Through investigating the killings they end up uncovering a divine conspiracy headed by rogue demigods who are determined to force the gods back into the world, even if that means shattering the sky itself.
Das Uru, a resurrected kind-of-still-corpsey demigod, is the head honcho of the conspiracy, and the murdered demigods that started the entire fiasco in the first place just so happen to be physically fueling his body by way of pilfered organs and blood and bodyparts. :^) He’s just stuffed with em.
Harry is a snarky shitty asshole who has a ton of issues with insecurity and self esteem and just kind of dumps buckets of aggressive attitude over everything in a terrible attempt at not dealing with his personality flaws. He doesn’t like most people, and he doesn’t like himself. Under it all he’s a good guy who’s incredibly loyal, gentle and idealistic, he’s just forgotten that it’s okay to openly embrace that, rather than hiding it away under a tangled defense mechanism. Lockjaw is a ball of sunshine, outgoing, enthusiastic, very mellow, emotionally grounded and supportive. All he’s ever wanted in his life is to have new experiences, with the world and with people, and BOY is he going to get them in SPADES and many are going to be the bad, terrible kind of experiences.
There’s also a ton o queer stuff, queer characters, trans characters, a bunch of nb characters. Harry is grey-ace and grey-aro with a preference for dudes, Lockjaw is very pan, all the time, any time. They kiss a load. :^)
My other three major ocs are Elepon, Promethius and Khomal who areeee roughly maybe 10 or 9 years old? They’re mostly under the tag Promethio, but it’s pretty barren since I only just very recently picked them up and I haven’t done much with them during my time on tumblr.
I haven’t worked on them for a solid 5 or so years but they’re getting a bit of a reboot and redesign at the moment especially Elepon who’s in the process of going thru a major overhaul. They’re entirely separate from Watch Gods stuff, and their story is a kind of supernatural Czech-Gothic Gaslamp horror.
Elepon is a vagabond busking musician who somewhere along the way managed to have a run in with an immensely powerful but trapped psychopomp spirit - Promethius - from the under sea, an endless chasm sea of spirits and souls far beneath the surface. Promethius is millions and millions of years old and is comprised of billions of conglomerated spirits who have established a persona and will together. He can’t exist easily on the surface world without kind of gradually dissipating away - he’s already been chained there for a long long time - so in desperation he ends up stuffing himself into Elepon’s body and mind to the point of leaking out, and Elepon is understandably pissed, as he’s kind of wasting away from the inside out now instead of Promethius. Elepon’s trying to find a way to rid himself of Promethius, since Promethius has no idea how to and doesn’t care to anyway. Khomal is Elepon’s fellow performer and friend and they’re pretty codependent and have spent the last several years together. Together they are all Very Problematic and get up to a bunch of illegal stuff, including pilfering and thieving, pub fights, a lil bit of murder and assassination when required, but mostly smuggling a particular illegal substance…
…The illegal substance being the fuel the world runs on. Their story is set in a sort of 1800s industrial revolution era. Some 50 or so years prior to the story beginning, the dead sea below began flooding upwards, soaking up into bogs and marshes of the moorland, creating oozing oil-like vast wetlands of liquidized souls. And it was discovered, by creative entrepreneurs, that it makes an absolutely incredible fuel source. So now the marshes are dominated by pump jacks and mines and ‘oil’ barons have grown fat and rich off of their ancestors and loved ones.
So, their industrial world is literally run on ghosts. :^)
Elepon is a Big Gross Trashboy (actually a Little Gross Trashboy i guess he small) and plays hard and fast with morality and mortality. He’s been around the world and he’s seen things and has adapted to them to survive, and he’s determined to survive, and the cost of kitsch niceties like an especially developed conscience. He is in constant need of a shower. Promethius is a Big Huge Bastard and loves to fuck with people more than anything in the world, he thinks it’s an absolute hoot, and if there’s anything he loves it’s fun things - he came to the surface for fun, got isolated and trapped for hundreds of years, and he’s trying to make up for it as much as he possibly can in his little personal joyride fleshsuit. Being a millions years old spirit entity his idea of fun is pretty weird and warped. Elepon absolutely despises him, Promethius is very fond in return. Khomal is an exceptional sharpshooter and dancer, and she’s a little bit more collected in the group, in the sense that she has direction and purpose whereas Elepon, and by proxy Promethius, are kind of vagrants when it comes to the concept of focus. She’s sly and mischievous and loves the adrenaline rush of dangerous situations and of fighting - she is tiny, and she will knock you out. Nothing means more to her than freedom.

31 + 33?
A QUESTION! A QUESTIONS
31. Is there anything that counts as a “dealbreaker” for them, positively or negatively? What makes things go smoothly, and what spoils an activity or ruins their day? Why?
Lockjaw hates dishonest and insincere people, he hates it, he’s very genuine and blunt with his feelings and emotions and thoughts, he never says anything he doesn’t mean. And the idea that somebody could be exploiting or manipulating him does his head in, since he’s so willing to trust somebody, he wants so badly to trust people. A main theme of the Watch Gods story is deception and intrigue so he has to learn how to handle that appropriately very quickly, as he’s usually very mellow and easy going the majority of the time, but if you press his buttons hard he has very emotional and bottled-up reactions that can get him into trouble.
Conflict spoils his day. He’s a lover not a fighter. He gets into a lot of fights with Harry initially since they really do not like each other at first, and it makes him extremely anxious and wound up. He loves people, he loves interacting with people, he’s very extroverted, so any conflict with the people around him makes him really upset. He’s fine with bickering and the occasional argument, he thinks arguing about small things can be entertaining sometimes, but a continuous stream and he’s gone.
Harry also fucking DESPISES being manipulated, and despises drama. He’s spent his entire life trying to get away from being manipulated. He hates being tricked. He really needs to be in control of his life and situation; he’s built a rock steady routine for himself the past half a dozen years and it’s boring and unsatisfying and mediocre as fuck, and a quite part of himself loathes it. Any deviation from this makes him shitty. He hates being in situations he’s out of his depth in. Losing control of himself and his life and surroundings is a big anxiety inducing deal to him and he’s very bad at managing that anxiety (his tactic is usually to just yell at it. ‘It’ turns out to be Lockjaw in the beginning. :^) ) The feeling of being exploited or lied to or manipulated ties in directly with that - the thought of giving up control of his person to somebody else is absolutely gut wrenchingly terrifying to him. It takes him a while to understand that Lockjaw wanting him to change his behaviour for the better isn’t Lockjaw trying to control his emotions and life, it’s Lockjaw wanting to help positively unlock who he actually is under a shit ton of spiky walls and spiky resentment.
Harry for the record is a terrible liar and hates lying but he can be very disingenuous about who he is and his emotions. Strong unique feelings bring him out of his comfort zone so he’s much more likely to cover it up and pretend to be something he’s not. (like an asshole; he’s an asshole, but he’s not An Asshole; he’s pretty gentle underneath all the kind of faked assholerly. )
33. How do they learn about the world–what is their preferred learning style? Hands-on learning with trial and error? Research, reading, and note-taking? Observation or rote memorization? Inductive or deductive reasoning? Seeking patterns and organization? Taking things apart and putting them back together? Creative processing via discussing, writing about, or dramatizing things?
Lockjaw is very good at observing - he has immense focus when he can actually manage to channel it into something important to him - and then learning through acting on his observations. I see him as leaning towards very visual learning. He likes to be taught things directly through action, or watching someone in action, and he’s very very good at quickly absorbing that information and replicating it. He’s not the greatest at learning through reading or just being told what to do (he’s a big bookworm just not the best at learning academically I suppose). He needs to see it done, and then he’ll get it immediately. He’s good at picking up information and memorizing it for a long long time, he’s incredibly astute about his surroundings and friends.
Lockjaw loves experiences over all else and loves learning about people and the world through them. He considers the need to find new and wonderful experiences to be his most important goal in life, besides emotional companionship - experiences with the world, experiences with other people. Obviously he likes the nice ones and the exciting ones, but the bad ones are just as important. Learning to take the bad ones in stride is an important part of his character development.
As for Harry, he’s pretty academically/scientifically inclined and typically feels like he needs to write things out to dissect and analyse them to gain solid meaning. He’s very dedicated to recording things in a journal he takes with him everywhere to record events, initially thinking that the journal might become a historical reference someday, but it ends up being more like a personal diary for him to… basically argue his feelings with himself. He’s also very very hands on when it comes to learning, and also teaching, which he’s pretty okay at doing once he cools off his hotheadedness. He’s an action man, he likes Doing Things physically just as much as he likes Thinking about things.
As their story progresses he opens up a lot emotionally and interpersonally, and begins to learn a lot about the world through discussion with Lockjaw. They both love talking about things that interest them, and they love talking about it together! They get very involved with discussions and debates, not just about things happening around them or thoughts, but also about themselves, and it gets them both going intellectually.
