I think we should all talk abt the fact that everyone in the secret society has been at some point headcanoned by the fandom as being watchers

Like Grian, obviously has been thought as a watcher since day one of the life series lore tbh

A few years ago there was a bombardment of Etho watcher headcanons (I think there was a lot of him being a listener, same with Bdubs too) on YT

Gem has been theorised to be a watcher since the superhero episode of WL, and even before that a lot of ppl (INCLUDING ME) thought she was a watcher with the whole celestial stuff

Etho blamed his sadism in TerraFirmaCraft season one on the viewers. He never calls them Watchers, but he still scolds his viewers for "making" him kill a cow by brutally crushing it with cobblestone at the end of winter despite him surviving fine on the food he already had.

this is a really really good point and one i should probably have thought of before because etho *loves* not just to blame his viewers but also just tease and annoy them at any possible time. see the clay from chocolate island or stuff like this where he outright admits to leaving defunct builds up only because he gets comments asking him to tear them down. most if not all mcyters will have direct discussion with their audience like this but etho is interesting in that he actively pokes fun at and tries to frustrate his viewers.

irt my last post this would probably suggest he isn't actually that ideal a candidate for the watchers and is probably more likely to piss them off supremely especially since his perceived detachment from the games could be seen as an emotional detachment too, meaning they have nothing to feed off- depending on how you interpret it i think they'd either love or hate him but either way i would think he would be a very interesting player to them

re: etho almost accidently getting illegal kills

the gods decide that etho works by rule of funny. when he does something that should kill someone else the gods ask "well would it be funnier if they live" and if the answer is yes they will live barely. etho nearly killing Martyn (who is the boogeyman) after Martyn tries to dig a grave for etho? Comedy gold

it didn't even click with me martyn was the boogeyman at that point omfg. this is funny as hell cause i interpret life being set in a world that is like. actively cruel and hostile at any given chance cause the gods (watchers?) controlling it dgaf so the idea theyre doing all that and then see etho dicking about and go ... no... he can stay. is sending me. gods silliest soldier fr.
