A beautiful yet copied style of video from Salomon.
They say copying is the best form of flattery, so who is Salomon flattering in this video? I blogged about Leonardo Dalessandri’s video Watchtower of Turkey in my first Tumblr post, and my most recent post referenced Dalessandri’s edit style in a Vincent Urban video about Japan. I’ve also seen the edit style in Rob Whitworth’s flow motion timelapse videos on various busy cities just as Dubai and no doubt other editors have noticed this style around the traps.
Is it new? Was it Dalessandri’s first? Have we all followed suit?
I love watching trends ripple through an art form. It’s how a community of artists should interact, learning, appropriating and growing from one another. However! Grow is the operative word here. The danger is simply copying. In order for there to be any progression in any form of human practise, be it science, art, philosophy, music... once the practise is mastered we must add our individual contribution to it.
We’re all different for a reason, so let’s not get stuck in copying the cool guy.
